Students and faculty with an interest and focus on international affairs in Africa are invited to a conversation with the Assistant Secretary to the Bureau of African Affairs, Ambassador Tibor Nagy. Ambassador Nagy will share his vast career experience on political and economic crises, health, relief and aid development in Africa as a United States Diplomat. Following his remarks he will be joined by HBCU alumnus of Virginia State University, Afua Riverson for a Q&A discussion. Join the conversation and register today.

Assistant Secretary to the Bureau of African Affairs
Ambassador Nagy, a retired career Foreign Service Officer, spent 32 years in government service, including over 20 years in assignments across Africa. He served as the United States Ambassador to Ethiopia (1999-2002), United States Ambassador to Guinea (1996-1999) as well as the Deputy Chief of Mission in Nigeria (1993-1995), Cameroon (1990-1993), and Togo (1987-1990). Previous assignments include Zambia, the Seychelles, Ethiopia, and Washington, DC. Read more
Afua Riverson
Digital Media Adviser for African Affairs
Afua Riverson is the Digital Media Adviser for the Bureau of African Affairs at the U.S.
Department of State. Within this position, she provides virtual and in-person expert
training in digital media, regional policies and trends, and Department social media
guidelines. These trainings equip Embassy staff abroad with the latest digital skills
needed to advance post and Department objectives on and offline. Prior to this role
Afua served both as a Staff Assistant in the Bureau of International Information
Programs and in the Office of the U.S. Science & Technology Advisor to the Secretary.
