FAITH-LIFT

Young people today! Those darn millennials! I just don't get kids these days! It's hard to not say these things about any generation that's younger than we are.  It's easy to think our generation was better in all ways than any of the previous generations since. But that doesn't help us understand them any better. If we are to truly understand where they are coming from and what makes them tick, empathy is the way.

The story of the death of Lazarus (John 11) gives us a glimpse at the empathy Jesus felt toward not only Lazarus but his sisters, Mary and Martha. Jesus weeps openly when sensing their sadness at the loss of their brother. Empathy is feeling with someone and not saying how you've been there and done that. Every experience is different, and we can learn to respect how differently everyone processes life, the good times and the hard. I challenge you to find someone outside your generation and say to them "Tell Me More." You just might be amazed at what you learn.

~ Pastor Emily

FOOD COLLECTION FOR OUT OF THE GARDEN
Charlie King is collecting non-perishable food items for OOGP until Sunday, March 31  for his Senior Project.  Food donations can be put on the table across from the Welcome Desk in the Community Center. Charlie is a student at Piedmont Classical High School in Greensboro and is Pastor Emily's son!  Click here for a list of most needed items.

NEW BEGINNINGS: If you would like to explore membership at First Lutheran, please attend the New Beginnings sessions from 10-11 a.m. today, March 31 and April 7 in the parlor near the traditional worship space. Pastor Jay will lead the first session on the overall vision of the church. Questions? Contact Pastor Jay, [email protected] , Pastor Emily, [email protected] or Frank Moore, [email protected].

NAMETAGS: As a way to get to know one another better and to learn each others' names, please wear your nametags. If you need a nametag, email Lisa in the office, [email protected], and she will make one for you. As you leave worship, put them on the racks near the contemporary and traditional worship spaces so you can get them when you come to worship. You'll get to know more people, and they will get to know you also!

WALK FOR WATER: You have contributed $580 toward the $2,500 needed to fund an ELCA World Hunger Appeal well. For each $10 given, a drop of water will be posted on a board across from the library. The lack of clean water is one of the biggest challenges to overcoming poverty. With a simple well, as many as 500 families gain access to clean, safe water. Rather than spending hours each day gathering water for the family, women and children have time for work and school.

Text a contribution by typing 336-664-8356; put donation amount (number only, no dollar sign, put space and type water. Hit send. You will receive a link to register your credit or debit card (the first time only). You will receive a text verification and a receipt via email. Or, make checks to First Lutheran Church and put "well" or "water" in the memo line.

FOOD DRIVE:  Help collect food at the Harris Teeter near Guilford College on Saturday, April 6. Shifts are 2 hours each, beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m. Two people are needed for the noon-2 p.m. shift. See sign-up sheet at Welcome Desk near Community Center or contact Jean Young,  [email protected] .
