Heroes of the Week

Sady Amend

Congratulations to this week's Heroes John and Sady. We hope you enjoy your up-close parking spot.

John Hellriegel, Middle School Bible Teacher
A hero is someone you look up to. Someone who is faithful, consistent, and who responds to situations in a way that you would hope to under similar circumstances. A hero is someone who is not immune to struggles and hardships, but someone who admits that they need the help of the Holy Spirit, and then seeks His wisdom and guidance before acting. There is no surprise as to why God selected this humble, yet mighty hero to teach Bible to middle school students. John Hellriegel, year after year you equip our students with the Biblical and spiritual tools they need to impact those around them for His Kingdom. You answer the hard questions truthfully and without compromise. You model how to speak truth in love and how to use God's Word as a manual for everyday life. You are a gifted speaker and communicate in terms that help the students understand the high calling that has been placed on them. We only see a small amount of the fruit of your labor, but one day when you stand before God, you will see orchards full of fruit because you faithfully lived out your calling. You are a hero!

Sady Amend, 4th Grade Teacher
You are an incredibly talented instructional teacher who leads by example! Your hard work and dedication to your students, co-team, and elementary family is a true blessing! You have an incredible mind and ability to see exactly what your students need. We honor you and appreciate you!!! You are an incredible blessing to this school and the 4th grade team. You always go the extra mile and help us all to stay organized. You are the backbone of 4th grade and we appreciate you!! Sammy and Jen

Change in Parking Availability for Parents

As always, the safety of our students is a high priority. To increase safety during morning drop-off, staff park will now park in our parking lot against the field. This will keep parents from pulling in and out of those spots (across the student path of travel) while students are arriving).

To compensate for this, staff will not park on Fischer Avenue along our property, leaving these spaces available for parents.

IMPORTANT REMINDER TO PARENTS: During morning drop off, please do not drop off students in the street or while parked on the street. You may park in the parking lot or you may park along Fischer Avenue, but you must accompany your student into the school. Parents must park and walk student(s) into school if you are not using the designated drop-off areas. There is NO STUDENT DROP OFF in parent parking areas. We cannot have students crossing the car path of travel without being accompanied by an adult.

Please see the enclosed diagram for details. If you have questions, please contact Keven Kroehler at [email protected].  Thank you for your partnership.
Choice Lunch

Please remember to order Choice Lunch for your student(s) for March and April. Thanks so much! www.choicelunch.com.

Middle School Chapel with Mrs. Niles
Coming on the heels of our family conversation with Mrs. Harrison last week, Mrs. Niles shared a Chapel message that gave practical methods of implementing the charge that was given by Mrs. Harrison to shift the culture of our campus. Mrs. Niles posed the question, "How do we stop stereotypes and avoid participating in gossip?"  The answer is simple, yet profound: "We get to know people." When we have an understanding of someone, where they come from, and what they are going through, it makes it much easier to see things from their perspective.

When we hear an untruth or a negative word spoken about them, it's much easier to stand up on their behalf and denounce the untruth.  Mrs. Niles was the first to let others get to know her, as she led by example and shared about herself.  She opened up about some funny moments, some challenging moments, and some things she enjoys doing in her free time!  She encouraged the students to do the same, and be vulnerable with each other taking opportunities to get to know someone different.
Share2Wear March

Thank you to every family who donated books for our March Share2Wear item.  We collected 540 books school-wide that go into the 2 "free little libraries" that are a Difference Maker project from a current 5th grade student!  It's amazing to see the ideas that God placed in our students' hearts come to fruition through the MCS Difference Maker Program!  All middle school students who shared a book got to dress up as one of their favorite childhood book characters!  Please enjoy the photos from our Share2Wear Day!

Spring Dress Code Reminder
It's springtime - flowers are growing, trees are growing, and your children are growing! Unfortunately, their uniforms can't grow with them, which means the uniform that fit your student at the beginning of the year may no longer fit appropriately now. Please take a few moments this week with your student to make sure their uniforms fit well and still follow middle school dress code guidelines.

As a reminder, skirt hemlines should be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee, and pants must be full-length; no folded, shortened, or frayed pant legs.

In addition, given the unusual amount of rainy days we have been experiencing, please keep in mind that all students may wear rain jackets for the rain or MCS sweatshirts. Students may not wear fashion jackets (jean jackets etc.), and only 8th grade students may wear university or DC sweatshirts.

If you have any questions about uniform or dress code guidelines or how these policies are implemented, follow this link to the MS Uniform Guidelines page here, see our MS Uniform Reminders page here, or contact Mrs. Niles at [email protected].
