LENTEN ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
|
|
Week Three
Lent is a time to reflect on our impact on Creation and on how we can lower the carbon emissions generated from our daily habits. Also important in our Lenten journey is to learn more about the Episcopal Church's significant leadership in confronting climate change. Did you know that an eight-member delegation of Episcopal bishops attended the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Poland this past December? It was the fourth Episcopal delegation to attend this annual climate change meeting. Led by Bishop Marc Andrus of the Diocese of California, the
delegation
advocated for the environmental priorities identified at the Episcopal Church's 79th General Convention earlier in July of 2018.
Bishop Andrus noted: "What I have found in participating in the UN climate summits from Paris onwards is that the thousands of national representatives from virtually every country on Earth are also local climate activists. These remarkable COP representatives are updating the adage from the 1970s, 'think globally and act locally' to be 'think and act globally and locally'. Thinking and acting globally and locally is what we in the Episcopal Church are about. At General Convention 79 in Austin we passed 19 pieces of environmentally-related resolutions.......The Episcopal Church is a global body doing climate and environmental work at the world and the local levels."
Last July's General Convention addressed 19 resolutions that underscore and strengthen the Church's position on stewardship of the environment and Creation. Bishop Andrus described the resolutions as "remarkable and a sign of a growing, vital spirit in the Episcopal Church around Creation care." Creation care resolutions promoted: locally grown food, energy and water efficiency, advocacy for ocean health, clean energy economies, and stewardship of creation with church-owned land. For more information about The Episcopal Church's efforts over a number of decades to cultivate stewardship of Creation visit:
In recognition of the work done at the General Convention, Bishiop Michael Curry said: "All of God's Creation is interconnected. The love that thrust the stars into the heavens themselves is the same love that gave birth and created the Earth itself and all of the Earth's children, wherever they may be. If we follow Jesus and his way of love, then we strive to love as God loves, to give as God gives, to care as God cares. And that means caring for God's Creation, all of it, and all of us."

EASTER FLOWER MEMORIALS
|
|
We are in the process of putting together the leaflets for Easter and planning the decoration of the church. Flowers used to beautify the church will be ordered for Easter, and are paid for by Easter flower donations made by our members. A special list will be printed to acknowledge that flowers were given in memory of, or in honor of, a loved one or a special occasion. The customary donation is $10 per name, with a maximum of $50.
The deadline for returning the form is Friday, April 12th
