Valerie Burkes, Tina Hernandez, Linda Simien Kelly

Up close with the artists at the
"Of Women Continues" exhibition

Tina Hernandez, Linda Simien Kelly and Valerie Burkes shared insight into their artwork at a Saturday panel discussion at The Collective.

"Bacchitlicue," digital print  (Tina Hernandez)

Tina's self-portraits allow her to portray herself in many different roles. "By playing these different types in my art, I gain knowledge and empower myself. There's a goddess in all women."

"Olivia," Oil on Canvas (Linda Simien Kelly)

Linda, a self-taught artist, draws from her own personal experiences to connect with other people, wanting them to share what she is feeling. "I seek to understand people and to emphasize how similar we all are."

"Praying Woman," Acrylic on Canvas (Valerie Burkes)

Valerie's art manifests the strength of women.  Her subject is often the lone focus on the canvas. "I stay within the lines and seldom surround the subject with a background. It's my sign of restraint."

Their works and the art of  Caroline Marcos, Mary Ann Lucas, Hope Goodson, Lee Carrier, L. Janelle Butler, Michelle Barnes and
Lindsay Peyton  are open for viewing through Saturday, April 14.
