WELCOME TO RUTIZ FARMS

Coming to our farm stand this Saturday, July 21,  from 11 am-2 pm, Dominic from The Central Coast Avocado Company will be sampling out his avocado oil.  The Haas Avocados used to make his oil are sourced from local growers here on the central coast and are cold pressed, which results in a premium Extra Virgin Avocado Oil.  Stop by and talk with Dominic and find out all the great benefits and uses of his company's avocado oil.

Be sure to check out " free library" at the farm stand.  Feel free to take home a book or two or drop off any books that you no longer need that have the theme of growing fruits and vegetables or preparing foods to eat ( cookbooks, etc. ).

Need a small bag while shopping at the farm stand?  We now will be offering small paper sacks, in addition to small plastic bags to put your produce into.  It's your choice...paper or plastic...let's see where this all goes...it would be nice to try to cut down on the number of plastic bags used .  I hope that everyone would continue to bring their own large reusable shopping bags to take home their goodies in.

PLEASE  PLEASE....pay close attention when turning into our driveway from the street.  There have been more than one accident caused by inattentiveness of drivers on The Pike in front of our stand.  Please don't park on the shoulder of the street...it creates limited visibility for drivers pulling out of our driveways...we have plenty of  parking space inside the farm in our parking lot.  Use the " entrance" driveway ( near the farm stand) and use the exit driveway located at the east end of our parking lot.

THIS FRIDAY AT THE STAND
Teixeira Cattle Co beef.
Little Red Hen bread
BlissRiver Organics elderberry syrup.
Kacey Cakes gluten free treats
Tiber Canyon olive oils.
Central Coast Catch will only be offering fish for her CSF members..no retail sales . Contact Jo for more info on her CFS ( 2cccatch@gmail.com ).

What's in this week's Box
Grown on our farm using organic farming methods:
carrots, snap peas, baby broccoli, kale, zucchini, potatoes, onions, raspberries and salad mix.
The "Persian" cucumbers come from Ocean Breeze Farms in Nipomo. They are grown using pesticide- free farming practices. . The "Persian" cucumber is unique among cucumbers in that it has a thin skin that doesn't require peeling and has no bitter aftertaste.
The avocados are grown by Holger, a "backyard" farmer right here in Oceano.  Pesticide free and fertilized organically.

Make up a tasty stir fry using this week's Harvest Box veggies:
Start with a skillet or wok and olive or avocado oil, add cut up carrots and yellow onions, golden zucchini and baby broccoli and lastly the kale  ( strip the leafy part from the vein of the leaf).  Saute until cooked to your tastes...add a little garlic powder and seasonings if desired.

Use the Sierra Gold potatoes for baked potatoes, mashed, fried or roasted...creamy yellow insides with a russet skin on the outside.
Grill up the zucchini on your bar-b-que...slice the zucchini lengthwise into strips, coast with olive oil and seasonings, grill over high heat until brown.
.How about a nice fresh kale salad using the bunch of Tuscano kale in your box this week. First, gently massage the leaves with your hands for a minute to make them a bit more tender. Then cut up the leaves into thin "ribbons" discarding the thicker portion of the stem. Mix in a bowl with some vinaigrette dressing and chopped nuts and fruits and finish with some Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top..delicious and good for you! Or how about some "kale chips"...wash and separate the leafy part from the stem ( discard the thicker stems ), cut up the leaves into smaller portions, add a little olive oil and seasonings, put on a roasting pan and roast in a hot oven until the leaves are crispy.

Be sure to follow Rutiz Farms on Facebook and Instagram to find out any "last minute" updates of farm stand happenings, specials and events.
