Join Us for Worship This Sunday
Sunday, April 29  at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Worship Lead:  Rev. Mara Dowdall, Senior Minister
Worship Associate:  Melinda Lee

"The Heart of a Minister"
As Rev. Mara's June departure begins to draw near, she'll reflect with us about the nature of ministry and what it means to bid farewell to a congregation you have served and loved. Mara will explore with us some of the practicalities of ministerial goodbyes (like what happens when you run into her next year at the grocery store!), but also the deeper spiritual dimensions of concluding our five years of shared ministry.

Deep Listening Circle This Sunday
After the Service!
Join the Healthy Congregation Team on Sunday, April 29 for a Deep Listening Circle! This is part of our congregation's ongoing covenantal work to build our deep listening skills (and a continuation of last year's "Deep Listening Meet-Ups"). All are welcome to this circle. The circle theme is Rev. Mara's upcoming departure and our congregation's embarking on a ministerial transition.
You'll have the opportunity
to reflect on Mara's related sermon from this Sunday, and share what's on your heart (and hear what's on others' hearts) as we prepare to say goodbye to our Senior Minister and enter a season of transition. Join us at 10:15 a.m. (after the 9 a.m. service) and/or at 12:15 p.m. (after the 11 a.m. service) in the Susan B. Anthony Room.

Spring Child Dedication Ceremony
on May 13!
hands butterfly
We will be holding our spring child dedication ceremony during our May 13 worship services celebrating our multigenerational community. Our child dedication is a UU ritual blessing and welcoming of new lives into the faith community.

If you are interested in participating (or learning more about what's involved in a UU child dedication ceremony), please be in touch with Rev. Mara at [email protected] or (802) 862-5630, x24. If you'd like to have your child dedicated, but are unable to make May 13, please still be in touch, as we can discuss setting up an individual dedication time, as well. The deadline to participate in the May 13 service is Tuesday, May 8.

Enacting a Moral Economy
Join us in exploring Beloved Community at www.uusociety.org
On Monday night, FUUSB members joined with others in Vermont Interfaith Action to call on Governor Scott to sign the minimum wage and family and medical leave insurance bills when they pass the legislature.

For those of you who could not go to Montpelier, we will have a letter  for you to sign this  Sunday, April 29  (after the services) that VIA will be delivering to the Governor on Tuesday, May 1. Please help us enact these essential pieces of the social safety net and give meaning to the call for a Moral Economy. For more information, contact Gene Bergman,  [email protected]  or 658-6289.

Deep Listening Circle on May 6
A few weeks ago some of you experienced or may have heard about a protest that occurred both outside and in our Sanctuary during our  11:00  service. This protest questioned our welcoming of trans individuals. During that service the worship team intentionally welcomed the protesters into our space, and also offered a few words of acknowledgement for the Transgender Day of Visibility. I recognize that there may be some lingering questions or emotions based on how you experienced that day. From a healthy congregation perspective, and as a congregation always striving to be more welcoming to those of us with LGBTQ+ identities, it's important not to dismiss any of the ways the activities and messages of that morning may have been individually or collectively experienced.

In partnership with the Healthy Congregation Team, we will be offering a deep listening circle on Sunday, May 6 at 12:30 p.m. This will be a time, for any of us who wish, to gather together in a group and share how we experienced that morning. As an alternative, I also offer any of you to reach out directly to me about that day.

Andre Mol, Ministerial Intern

Poor People's Campaign
Zoe Hart

The Poor People's Campaign-A National Call for Moral Revival is uniting tens of thousands of people across the country to challenge the evils of systemic racism, poverty, the war economy, ecological devastation and the nation's distorted morality.

The UUA, through the Side With Love campaign, is actively supporting the campaign and encouraging UUs to sign up. The campaign is organizing six weeks of direct action between  May 13 and June 23  in state capitals and Washington, D.C. If you'd like more information about the campaign and different ways you can be involved, email me at  [email protected] .

FUUSB Non-Auction
What? No service auction this year?

No one stepped up to volunteer to run the annual auction so we are doing things differently. No auction leaves a big hole in our budget, and there are still services out there that people want to offer and people who want to contribute, so this year is the  NON-Auction.

There are two ways to be a part of the non-auction.

1.     Donate. What would you have been willing to spend on the auction? Just donate that amount to the Society. How much would you have spent on a meal or event you provided? Donate that amount.

2.     Still provide a service, but organize it yourself. Is there something you have done in the past that you can do again? Pull it together and have people send their "bid money" to the Society. You can organize it personally, via the  eNews, or on the Facebook group.

The money needs to be collected by mid-June, so we only have two months to pull this together.

Donations can be sent to the Meeting House with "Non-Auction" in the memo line, or go to the  Donate page on the website and click on "Make A Gift" to donate to the non-auction using your credit card.

Let's get in the spirit of the auction and find ways to connect throughout the year via services we organize ourselves.

Care Network Team Update
HOW TO REACH
THE CARE NETWORK TEAM
Please let the Care Network Team know if you are aware of someone in the community who could use some support, whether it be a visit, a comforting prayer shawl, or a meal. The email is:  [email protected] .

HAVE A DESIRE TO HELP BUT AREN'T QUITE SURE HOW?
Share a meal with one of the following families. Nothing fancy is required. Your assistance does NOT have to be a 4-course gourmet meal.  If you are looking for ideas, check out the Care Network section of the Society website. Click "Caring and Belonging," then "Care Network Team" and then scroll down to see some delicious UU tested recipes! (Click here to go directly to the page.)
  • Shirley Wolfe would greatly appreciate a couple meals every week while her husband, Roy Neuer, is at Fanny Allen Rehab recovering from a stroke.
  • Miriam (Tammy) Strauss is dealing with long-term health issues caused by being rear-ended by a cattle truck. One meal every week is a major support to her. Hannaford, Rite Aid or gas station gift cards are also welcomed. See the meal train for more details.
  • Kathy Bonilla has been fighting a long-term health battle and she and her two granddaughters truly appreciate the help that a few meals a week can be.
Note: John Lincoln and Jill Stevens are not currently in need of help and have asked to suspend their meal train for a month or so. Elz Curtiss and Lynne Matthews are also not in need right now. Stay tuned! Thank you to all who have contributed.

Pet Food Drive at FUUSB
dog_cat_portrait.jpg Sarah Yandow

The UU Animal Ministry Team is collecting pet food! Anything and everything "pets" will be appreciated: cat food, dog food, litter, treats, toys, and other small pet supplies. These items should be clean, new or gently used (food items should be unopened), and will be donated to local food shelves to reach out and help people in our community with their furry family members.

Please leave items in the Pet Food Drive box in the alcove outside the Parlors.  Thank you!

Save the Date: Evening Book Group Organizational Meeting
Katerina Borisov

Is there enough interest to start another Book Group at FUUSB? Currently there is one that meets during the day on a weekday. A new one would meet in the evening, once a month or so, day to be determined by interest. There will be an organizing meeting on  Wednesday, June 6 from 6:15-7:15 p.m . at the Meeting House to gauge interest, discuss how to structure things, and if there is momentum, to pick the first title which would be read over the summer and discussed at the first meeting in September.

Please bring a few ideas for books to read if you can.  These should be books you have read and think would make for interesting discussions, and bonus if they deal with substantive themes UUs might appreciate! If you'd like to be informed about further developments but cannot attend the  June 6  meeting, please email
