wPOWER Launches Toolkit on Gender Advocacy in Clean Energy
We are excited to announce the launch of our new toolkit on gender advocacy in clean energy . The toolkit highlights key calls to action that sector players need to support in order to create a cohesive and targeted advocacy agenda. The publication focuses on key advocacy areas which aim to increase the involvement of women in clean energy initiatives, resulting in accelerated energy access.

wPOWER flies the Clean Energy Flag at the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue
Strategic Partnerships Director, Linda Davis, PhD, attended the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD) on the 17th and 18th of April 2018. The event attracted 2,000 participants, 30 ministers and secretaries and over 100 high-level speakers from more than 90 countries, with the goal of discussing viable concepts for the ongoing transformation of the energy sector.
As a high-level speaker, Dr Linda Davis, represented wPOWER at the Women in transition energy networking lunch and on the Policies and Investments for Energy Access panel , expressing the vital role of women’s involvement across the clean energy value chain. Read more

International Lifeline Fund (Lifeline)
Since 2006, International Lifeline Fund  has worked in refugee and Internally Displaced Persons camps, emergency settings, and commercialized markets to enable sustainable access to fuel-efficient cooking technologies and clean water solutions. Based in Washington, D.C., Lifeline has implemented humanitarian and development programs across sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean including countries such as Northern Uganda, Darfur, South Sudan, Burundi, Haiti, Tanzania, and Northern Kenya. 28 year old Kenyan wins the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves (GACC) Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award
GACC announced Chebet Lesan as the winner of its Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Chebet is the founder and CEO of BrightGreen, a cooking fuel company based in Kenya. Chebet's company produces and processes organic and agro-wastes into eco-friendly charcoal briquettes. BrightGreen has been in operation since 2015 and has created cost-cutting, eco-friendly cooking fuel for low-income families in Kenya. The award program, which is in its second year, recognizes outstanding female leaders in the household energy sector who are advancing clean cooking solutions in emerging markets. Read more
Renewable Energy for Refugees (RE4R)
Practical Action and UNHCR, through the support of IKEA Foundation, will aid refugees and their host communities to access finance, training, technology and expertise to facilitate clean renewable energy to power homes, schools, health clinics and businesses. Through the Renewable Energy for Refugees project, Practical Action will introduce clean energy for lighting, cooking and powering tools and appliances to these communities. The main goal of the project is to empower entrepreneurs to adopt these clean energy technologies in an attempt to reduce dependence on aid. Adopting these technologies would reduce energy costs, improve livelihood and create platforms for economic independence through entrepreneurship. Read more
Countries Report Strong Gains Despite Slow Progress on Global Energy Goals
There is real progress made across the world to fast track global energy targets for 2030. While global trends are disappointing, recent national experiences around the world offer encouraging signs. Corroborative evidence suggests that with effective and strategic approaches and policies, countries can make substantial progress in clean energy by increasing clean energy access, and improving the lives of millions of people. Is LPG Really a Dirty Word

When people think of clean fuels, liquified petroleum gas (LPG) – a fossil fuel – is not the first thing that comes to mind. However, LPG is one of the few clean cooking options that has proven to have health, environmental and cost savings benefits compared to traditional and unimproved biomass cooking methods. Because it is derived from petroleum, many environmentally focused funding programs immediately disregard LPG cooking solutions. Read more
Technologies for sustainable development: mind the gender gap

This case study explores the gender distribution in production at BURN Manufacturing , which stands at 54% women and 46% men employed. The case study provides an overview of the challenges, accomplishments and lessons learned in creating and maintaining a gender-inclusive workforce in the cookstoves manufacturing sector.
