G'MACH - CHESSED MISSIONS
The goal of G'mach, one of our student organizations, is to encourage our students to invest themselves in chessed (acts of kindness) not only in school, but outside of school as well. Throughout the year we promote numerous chessed opportunities including a Tehillim-a-thon during the Aseres Yemay Teshuva (Ten Days of Repentance), Blankets for Houston, volunteering with children who have special needs with Menucha, collecting toys for the Jewish Caring Network Chanukah Toy Drive, "I spy with my grateful eye" initiative, Weekly Chessed Checklists, Pre-Pesach Helping Program, Selling Purim Labels for Tzedaka, and more!

Each student who participated in these activities received a decorative bracelet. Girls who participated in a minimum of three "chessed missions" were entitled to participate in a special trip to Sportsplex.

SEVENTH GRADE CREATED BEAUTIFUL HAGGADOS
SIXTH GRADE GOES TO BIZTOWN
The Sixth Grade went on their annual trip to Junior Achievement's BizTown, a simulated town that students run. Students read job descriptions and applied for a job in school. They are then hired for a position in one of fourteen businesses, including a bank, café, newspaper, realty office and insurance company.   Before the trip, the students learned how to write checks and keep a check register, how to deposit their paychecks and the difference between a credit card and debit card. Once at BizTown, the girls received paychecks and were able to spend the BizTown money in the various businesses. While learning about entrepreneurship and valuable financial literacy skills, the girls had a wonderful time being adults for the day. "Now I know what my parents do" was a very common comment afterwards. One girl, when asked for her favorite part of the trip remarked, "I know it sounds funny, but working."

As a parallel to the actual trip, the students in school were treated to a talk given by
Mrs. Malka Schnitzer
of The Therapy Spot. Mrs. Schnitzer spoke about the different aspects of running a business. Afterwards, the girls played a Junior Achievement budgeting game in which they needed to budget for various items including food, entertainment and clothing.
