Valisure Expands Capabilities To Test Medications For Cancer Causing Contaminants Implicated In Recent Recalls
NDEA and NDMA impurities have been responsible for numerous recalls of hypertension medications and Valisure is now the first pharmacy to test for them in every batch.
In response to the multitude of recalls for angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARB), a sartan class drug that is commonly used to treat high blood pressure, Valisure, the first online Analytical Pharmacy, announced it has expanded its testing capabilities to screen samples from all batches of medications it dispenses for the cancer causing contaminants N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), N-Nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA), and N,N-Dimethylformamide (DMF), the chemical solvent that has been implicated in the production of these impurities.
Since the beginning of July 2018, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has continued to publish recalls in the sartan class of drugs from numerous manufacturers. These common prescription drugs include valsartan, losartan, and irbesartan.

Facilities update: Put on your hard hats!

CT's 4,000-plus manufacturers try a larger umbrella
Connecticut is home to more than 4,000 manufacturers, all of varying sizes in terms of sales, staffing and product mix. A small percentage belong to one of more than a half-dozen manufacturing industry trade groups or lobbies.
So many members and lobbies, in fact, industry leaders say, that it's often difficult for them and their industry and legislative allies to know whom to reach out to on issues vital to the manufacturing sector's health and standing.
To be more responsive to issues and inquiries from within and outside the industry, the state's manufacturing participants, with the aid of the Connecticut Business & Industry Association and ConnSTEP, have banded together to create the Connecticut Manufacturers' Collaborative (CMC).

Connecticut Bioscience Pipeline Launches Initial Call for Applications
The Connecticut Bioscience Pipeline program, a partnership between Connecticut Innovations, the University of Connecticut, Quinnipiac University and Yale University, announced the launch of the first of four open application periods in search of new ideas that can one day become investable business ventures in the medical devices, drug delivery, diagnostics and health IT industries. Eligible projects can qualify for up to $30,000 per team over 12 months to be used for business strategy, market definition and prototyping, and proof-of-concept activities.
Applications for this first round must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. ET on April 26.
