The Wave
April 27, 2018
Welcome to the Spring!  We are painting and creating a Mediterranean space out on our patio for classes to use.  Thank you so much to the folks that kindly have come to help us.  The tables will last for a couple more years and the back space with the umbrellas would be a favorite place for any class/lunch setting! YEA - TRCS just gets better and better or moss won't grow on this TRCS Rock!

Final papers were due yesterday. We had so much fun hosting a pizza  lunch for those that met this deadline! This is all about training students that deadlines matter, that work matters and that you get the job done!

This coming week is mid-term week! That means that Chalk will be frozen ( no new postings of grades) giving the kids a chance to talk to their teachers, find any missing items and catch up on work that is not entered.  Please know that parents and students should all be activated on the grade book program - this is the time to work together with your student to review their progress and help them to come and talk to their teachers.  They can change their path forward if they look, try and communicate!  We look forward to again posting assignments starting next Friday afternoon.  The grades will be frozen from Monday (8:00 AM) to Friday (3:00 PM).  The rough drafts only will be on Chalk, as the finals take more time to score.

We are in the final stages of our Administrator search.  We will have all the details to you in the next few weeks.  We are excited and know that all the pieces of this  process often take more time than we would wish.   We will be in touch with you via the WAVE in early/mid May, as we look to complete our work to look forward into the coming 2018-19 school year.

Oh and can you please keep this weather coming?  Our Electives depend on it! :)

THIS WEEK:

5th/Intermediate:  Creative writing in Language arts, 2 - 3 choices of projects introduced.  By mid-week in math, they will be starting their math project for independent projects.

6th/ Advanced 1:  Smarter balanced in English/Language Arts.  They also will be starting their Spring Literature book Peak, along with the introduction of their literature project for independent projects.  In math, there will be regular math curriculum.

7th/Advanced 2:  In English/Language Arts, there will be the introduction to both Creative Writing and Literature projects for Independent Projects - They have a choice of projects and a choice of which to start first.  They will also start their Spring Literature book - Into Thin Air!  In math, they will be working on Smarter Balance and also the "big reveal" of their math projects will occur at the end of the week.

8th/PBL 1 & 2:  Starting their spring Literature book the Alchemist. These folks keep their own calendars and will get contracts for both creative writing and literature projects. After Smarter Balanced testing earlier in the week, math problems for 8th math and Geometry will be revealed at the end of the week.

WE ARE OFF!  Check here each week for updates on what your kids are working on.  Please be aware that we have moved kids into different groups so they may not necessarily be in their grade level groups for Independent Projects. Knowing their Independent Group name will help you navigate what their requirements are.

Please also be aware that this is not an at home project. We are giving plenty of time at school to get this work done. We know that working at home, is sometimes better for some students but we ask that you not help your kids to complete anything that they bring home.  Thank you - we can't wait to see their abilities and talents show their expertise on all of their projects!
