Puster Elementary Principal Message
March 7, 2019
Tonight is our Spring Open House. I hope you can join us and are able to see some of the great things happening at Puster Elementary.

If your kids have not told you, next week is Spring Break and the campus will be closed. With the amount of illness that has occurred over the past couple of months, I hope we can use this time to get healthy and come to have a strong finish to the 2018-2019 school year. Where ever your travels take you next week, no matter if is across the ocean or just down the road, my best wishes for a safe and restful break.

Have a Spring Break!

Kevin

Library Lowdown
We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who participated in our book fair this week. From exceptional volunteers to cheerful customers, this week has been a huge success. So far, we have collected about $300 for Harmony Grove. Mrs. Smithwick will use these funds to select books from the fair for their new library. Thank you to those of you who have also generously donated new and gently used books to send to our friends in Arkansas.

Proceeds from the book fair benefit our library. Mrs. Smithwick is able to select books from the fair for the library shelves and also can order from a larger selection online. The spring book fair helps to pay for copies of the yearly award nominees and winners such as the 2x2 list and the Bluebonnets. We also work to grow our series collection, fill in gaps, and provide high interest books for our students.

We couldn't do it without YOU! Thanks for your support.

The referral window for students in grades 1-11 for gifted and talented services is open February 1 - March 8. Referral forms are located online in the PowerSchool Parent Portal.

Testing is scheduled for Saturday, March 30 and April 6. Appointments will be sent via email after the referral window closes March 8.

Please note: Kindergarten students will not be tested during the spring window.

For questions regarding referrals, please contact Kari Lockhart (469.742.8015) or
Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"
Lovejoy Offers Group Counseling

Lovejoy is offering group counseling for students for a variety of areas. The groups will meet weekly, during school hours, and will be facilitated by Lovejoy’s Social Worker, Noelle Gove, LCSW. The overall goal of the counseling groups is to address student’s social/emotional needs that may be impacting their experience and success at school. Groups are being offered, based on need, to every campus in the district, grades K-12.

If you are interested in your student participating in a group, please click here to complete the interest form. Noelle Gove will be in contact with parents regarding further details of the group and to obtain consent for student participation. This form is not a consent for counseling, but rather a survey of interest.

Private tutoring is available for students in grades K-12 in all subjects. Tutoring 101 recommends once a week tutoring for an hour to increase grades and learn subject matter more deeply. A once a week appointment usually results in an increase of one letter grade or more. Turn those C's into B's.
