All School Art Show
Opening this Saturday
April 14th, 2-4pm

Stop by the library this Saturday from 2-4pm for the opening reception of Between the Lines, the 3rd annual Student Art Exhibit from the Beacon City School District. The exhibit showcases 45 works from students in Kindergarten to 12th grade. Thanks to all the students and teachers for sharing their vibrant and creative work with us.
The show will be on exhibit through April 26th.
Trustee Election & Budget Vote
Tuesday, April 17th, Noon-8pm

The Library will hold the annual budget vote and trustee election on Tuesday, April 17th from 12 noon to 8pm in the Library's Community Room. All registered voters in the Beacon City School District are eligible to vote. Absentee ballots are available at the library. Contact Mrs. Verdibello, Interim Director with any questions.

There are two vacancies on the Howland Board of Trustees.  Both vacancies are for five-year terms. 
Upcoming Programs for Adults
Daytime Book Club
Tuesday, April 10th, 1:30-3pm

The Helen Savoit Daytime Book Club meets the second Tuesday of each month at 1:30. This month, we are discussing the novel "The Japanese Lover" by Isabel Allende. Read the book and then join us for a lively conversation.

No registration is required and new members are always welcome. Copies of this novel are available in the Mid-Hudson Library System.
Youth Programs
Lego/Tech Club
Thursdays, 3:30-5pm

A place for elementary school-age children to work collaboratively or independently to build fantastic Lego creations and tinker with our STEM materials (littleBits, robots, etc.). You can even combine them!
 
Adults with younger children may build with Duplos/Legos in the children's area. This FREE program is a drop-in and does not require registration.

Tween & Teen Programs
High School Writing Lab
1st & 3rd Wednesdays, 3-4pm
Starting April 18th

Need help with college essays or other writing assignments? Starting on 4/18, high school students can stop by the Writing Lab after school on first and third Wednesdays. Facilitator, Jess Conway, an instructor at Teachers College, will be available to provide support, assistance, and encouragement for students in grades 9-12 at work on school or personal writing projects and college essays.

Art & Zine Club
Friday, April 20th 3:30-5pm

Calling all artists and cartoonists. Meet up with other Beacon area creative teens to draw and makes some zines. What's a Zine? Zines are DIY self published art books and magazines. Different types of zines and art making techniques are introduced each month. Artists can work independently or collaboratively.
 
RSVP preferred so we have enough supplies available.

Sketchbook Studio
Wednesday, April 25th 3-5pm

Stop by the Library the last Wednesday of every month for Sketchbook Open Studio.
SOS is an open space for middle school and high school students to work on sketchbooks, art journals and other drawing projects. Monthly drawing prompts will also be available for inspiration. All kinds of art materials will be on hand to use during studio time. Bring your own sketchbook. All skill levels welcome.
