Advent 2020
Dear friends,

Welcome to Advent! Advent is this time of expectation and longing that leads to the wonder and joy of Christmas. The pandemic started in Lent, with a period of reflection, penitence, and hunger for the Empty Tomb of Christ. Since the end of the Easter Season, we've been in what is called "Ordinary Time" (not because it is less interesting, but because there are so many numbered weeks!) and now we're back to one of the more contemplative seasons.

While I tend to be a little bit of a stickler for liturgical seasons and moods, I must say that this year my approach to Advent is a little different. Yes, we'll have time for reflection, but I also think we're ready for some celebration and some exploration of what it means to be followers of God even in the midst of our longest Lent and our longest Advent.

Below you'll read about several new and exciting ways that we'll live into our calling to follow that star to Bethlehem and encounter Jesus again and anew! There shall be a time when we can return to our beloved traditions, for sure, but this year, we'll be creative, deliberate, and filled with expectation. Come, friends, let us prepare to kneel before the baby born in a manger!

Finally, you should have received an Advent postcard by now. If you would like additional copies or have someone you'd like us to send one to, please contact Terri in the church office. You can also click here for an electronic version that you can send to friends or others who might be interested.

P.S. We'll continue to gather for worship each Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. on Facebook Live and there will be Sunday School for preschool through 5th grade at 10:30 each week!

Advent Extravaganza
December 6, 3:00 p.m.

This is going to be epic and you won't want to miss it! While we wish we could be together more often, this will be our chance to obtain items we need to connect with one another during Advent and Christmas. Take a look at the graphic for all that will be happening (including lighting the PCWS Christmas Tree and singing carols!), and be sure to attend and bring a contribution of hats, mittens, and gloves or nonperishable food for the Second Baptist Church of La Grange food pantry! If you can't make it, email pcws@presbyws.org so that we can be sure to get the important items to you!

Pastor Lottie will be leading the craft with plenty of opportunity for laughter and connection. If you're out of town and want to participate, email Lottie (lottie@presbyws.org) for a list of items you'll need.
