Superintendent's Message
At Jurupa Unified School District, it is our mission to help every student succeed in college, careers and life. We do this in part by instilling a growth mind-set in every child; that is, helping them understand how grit, resiliency, hard work, dedication and perseverance deliver success, achievement and lifelong learning.

This is our promise to our students, parents, and the community – a promise we call Learning without limits.

Students Love New Kicks
What better way to jump for joy, than in new shoes?

Two hundred students at West Riverside Elementary were elated on March 12 to receive new athletic shoes, courtesy of Shoes That Fit and Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

“I haven’t got new shoes since I was 2,” said a kindergartner named Kali, who praised the zippers on her new footwear.

The 90-minute event, which slipped new kicks onto dozens of little feet, filled the campus with laughter, excitement and joy: “It provided shoes, warmed hearts and put a smile on each precious face,” said West Riverside Principal Marcella Hale. “We are blessed to have organizations willing to support the needs of our students.”

Color Guard Wins Makeover

Value of new equipment awarded to the Rubidoux High color guard: $1,547.

Whoops and cries of delight from students: Priceless.

The Rubidoux High School Color Guard recently won the Guard Room Makeover Contest held by Winter Guard International and Director’s Showcase International (WGI/DSI).

The competition invited color guard squads to submit videos on why a particular unit deserved new performing equipment such as sabers, rifles, flags and flag poles.

NVHS is a Model of Excellence
Nueva Vista High School provides a unique sense of belonging to about 220 Jurupa students who have missed blocks of class time and enrolled in an academic recovery program.

“I have never felt more accepted or appreciated (than) I do at Nueva Vista,” said student Ziclary Garcia.

Thanks in part to the success of students like Ziclary, Nueva Vista has been named a 2019 Model Continuation High School by the California Department of Education.

Student Mural Shines
Q.  What happens when you combine student art with community beautification?

A. A gorgeous mural at the corner Mission and Rubidoux boulevards, on the Jimenez Rancho Market building.

Four Jurupa students designed original art for the project, intended to help elevate art, culture and civic pride in the Rubidoux area.

The students – selected through a local art contest held by Healthy Jurupa Valley – joined art teachers and Healthy Jurupa Valley staff to paint the murals in early March. The completed work is scheduled to be unveiled at 10 a.m. on March 30.

In addition to the public display of their work, the students – Jasmine Guerrero, of Rubidoux High, and Abril Aranda, Tais de Andrade and Charley Jenavive Horton Lyman, all of Patriot High – received certificates of achievement and art supplies.

JUSD Honors Top Teachers
Jurupa Unified teachers had another great year, innovating, inspiring and ensuring that students can learn without limits.

The Board of Education on March 11 honored 25 of the district’s standout instructors, one representing each school site. Principals emphasized the top teachers’ care for students, quality of instruction and dedication to their craft.

Of the honorees, three teachers will move on for consideration in the Riverside County Teacher of the Year awards: Elizabeth Van den Raadt of Glen Avon Elementary, Nancy Croxton of Mission Middle, and Ryan Bailey of Rubidoux High.

ACSA honors JUSD leader

One of Jurupa Unified’s top administrators has earned a prestigious award from the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA), the nation’s largest umbrella group for school leaders.

Paula Ford, JUSD’s Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, is the 2019 Region XIX Business Services Administrator of the Year. In addition, Region XIX chose Ms. Ford to advance to this year’s state ACSA honors, where she has reached the final round of consideration and could be one of 25 individual statewide winners announced in April.

Making An Impact
Perhaps you’ve heard of Impact Teams – a super-teaching concept spreading through K-12 education and helping educators innovate, collaborate and refine their teaching methods based on student work.

Impact Teams are small groups of educators who work in partnership with students to improve feedback, instill a growth mind-set that promotes learning without limits, and better understand how specific actions affect student success.

Jurupa Unified introduced Impact Teams last year at six pilot sites: Patriot High; Mission Middle; and Granite Hill, Mission Bell, Peralta and Van Buren elementary schools. This year, the program has expanded to all but three campuses, which will start the program next year.

District Initiatives
