Principal's Message
March 22, 2019
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:
We are coming to the end of another busy week for everyone at OLQP. Select Choir students have been practicing in preparation for their performance at the state capitol. The Saints Robotics team is competing this weekend. Spring Play practice is in full swing. Teachers are busy prepping for field trips, the cotillion, and more.
As part of the Catholic school system in Texas, Our Lady Queen of Peace is accredited through the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops' Education Department. Part of the process is for teams trained in evaluating schools to visit schools and validate their self-studies for accreditation. This week, I served on a visiting team in the archdiocese. During the visit, I was reminded that our Catholic schools have much in common: shared commitment to Faith, academic rigor, partnership with parents, and service to the community. Working together, great things are accomplished.
Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.

Did You Know?
Iowa Assessments/CogAT April 1-12, 2019
The IOWA/CogAT are national standardized tests. The IOWA measures achievement in several important content areas including Reading, English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.  Results help teachers identify student strengths as well as opportunities for growth.  The IOWA also measures student growth and progress in the content areas assessed from year to year.  The data generated by testing informs decision making for both individual student growth and program improvement. The CoGAT is an abilities test and provides data to ensure that each student is reaching his/her potential. Additional information is accessible to both parents and teachers that provides strategies to enhance individual learning. Assessment results are usually received in May.
Here are a few suggestions that can help prepare students for testing and what you can do to help.  A student who is well-rested, well-fed, and has a positive attitude about testing is best prepared for testing.  Please consider the following:
1.  Have your child go to bed early enough to get plenty of rest.
2.  Set the alarm clock a little early, in order to allow your child time to eat and dress without rushing.
3.  Be sure that pencils, paper, and other school materials are together and located where they will not be forgotten.  Students will need 2 sharpened No. 2 pencils for the test.
4.  Let all conversations about testing be brief and casual. Just encourage your child to do his/her best.
5.  Reschedule any dentist and doctor appointments until after testing is complete.  If a more immediate appointment is required, try to get an afternoon appointment.
6.  Prepare a nutritious breakfast for your child but not a heavy one.
7.  Be sure that your child is not late for school.  If a student arrives late to school during testing, he/she may not go to the classroom.  Students must wait in the office until they can join the class without interrupting the test.
8.  If you need to bring something to your child during this time, please remember that you must leave it at the office.
