Ryleah and Her Six Siblings Had Never Eaten Dinner at a Table

When Ryleah and her six younger siblings came into foster care, they expected to eat their meals on the floor. They were used to sleeping in one bed together, and when they were in stores they shoplifted, filling their pockets as they'd learned to do. Their CASA volunteer Linda spent the next year advocating for safe, permanent homes for the children. The children told Linda they loved foster care because they had clean clothes, food and their own beds, but Linda wanted more for the children. She wanted them to know love.

Marian Glass and Stephanie Roberts were neighbors and friends who shared a love for children. As their own children began to leave home, they went through Dallas CASA training and decided to partner on cases. Ten years later, they're still going strong, having worked 11 cases involving 42 children. Marian and Stephanie share their tips on successful advocacy on  Dallas CASA's blog .
Dallas CASA Will Honor Nowitzkis as Champions of Children

Dallas CASA is pleased to share that we'll be honoring Jessica and Dirk Nowitzki with the 2019 Judge Barefoot Sanders Champion of Children Award at our annual dinner Nov. 14 at the Omni Dallas Hotel.  Known most for his storied 21 years with the Dallas Mavericks, Dirk Nowitzki has made supporting children in need a priority since the earliest days of his professional basketball career. His behind-the-scenes personal involvement at Children's Medical Center earned him the nickname "Uncle Dirk," and he's supported the Heroes Special Olympics softball and Heroes Celebrity baseball games as well. Through the family's Dirk Nowitzki Foundation, numerous organizations serving children and families have benefited from the Nowitzkis' generosity. By lifting up children and families impacted by poverty, abuse, neglect and illness, Jessica and Dirk are helping Dallas children find pathways to health and well-being, education and success.  The award is named in honor of Judge Barefoot Sanders, the revered United State District Court judge for the Northern District of Texas, a past award recipient and a steadfast supporter of children. For more information or to buy tickets to the dinner, visit Dallas CASA's website . The deadline for sponsorship for the evening is November 1.  To read more about the evening's speaker Judge Rosemarie Aquilina, visit  My Sweet Charity .

Last Call to Join Dallas CASA's 2019 Angel Tree Program

Most children dream of finding special gifts under the tree on Christmas morning. For children in protective care, life is so uncertain and full of change they can't be sure Christmas is coming. But each child with a CASA volunteer can be assured their holiday dreams will come true. Their advocates gather their holiday gift wish lists, along with practical things like clothing and shoe sizes, and submit them to Dallas CASA. Our very generous corporate and organizational partners along with individuals in the community then fulfill these wish lists, checking the lists off one by one. Gifts are dropped off at Dallas CASA's offices, with the help of Children's Council volunteers. As Christmas approaches, advocates retrieve the gifts for their children and deliver the gifts, ensuring every child's holiday wishes really will come true. To learn more about individual donations or to engage your company or organization to become a 2019 Dallas CASA Angel, contact Sharon Balaban by Oct. 30. Dallas CASA also accepts Walmart gift cards for children who have recently come into care or for teenagers who might prefer to shop for them own gifts. Click here to purchase a Walmart gift card. They may be sent to Dallas CASA, 2757 Swiss Avenue, Dallas TX 75204.
