Grace's young iconographers
by Elizabeth Wolterink, Youth Group Leader

How many of you played Lent Madness?  While we were all playing and learning about our spiritual forbearers, the High School Youth Group has been taking their saintly studies a step further.  During Lent, each student chose a saint and has been learning about them while creating an icon of that individual.  Icon writing (icons are always "written," not "painted") and veneration has been a traditional prayer practice in Eastern Christianity for millennia.  An icon differs from an idol in that it is a prayer and worship tool, not an object of worship itself.  Saints are the heroes of our tradition and icons of them inspire contemplation and emulation of their faith in action.  The act of writing click here to continue reading...

Moving Forward: the next step on May 5 10a-2p
Tell me more, tell me more! Our parish conversation continues
All parishioners are invited to attend in the parish hall

Came before? Come again! Missed it? You can come, no problem! Got a problem with transportation or childcare? Not a problem-tell us and we will help with either or both! We really want to bring the whole family at Grace together to talk about our shared life together. Conversation about what makes us uniquely Grace, our strengths as a community and the gifts each one of us brings to the life of our parish, will help us as we begin to imagine and wonder and dream together for our future. This is an exciting process. It is also an important next step in re-engaging our rector search. Coffee will be served at 9:30 am. The conversation will begin at 10 am and conclude at 2 pm. Lunch will be provided. Sign-up sheets are in the commons to aid in planning for this event. In addition, you may RSVP via phone or email to the church office. We are looking forward to this gathering for all the people of Grace and hope to see you there.

Parish Meeting Sun., April 29 at 11am
Please join us for our spring quarterly parish meeting. The Vestry will provide updates on the Grace Church Foundation, finances and other business of the church; as well as a follow-up to the Holy Conversation held in February. All are welcome!

Friday Community Meal receives $1000 grant
The Friday Community Meal ministry, part of our Jubilee Ministries at Grace Church, was a 2018 recipient of a $1000.00 grant from the Old Mission Women's Club.  Brenda Kelly and Donna Hornberger, members of both Grace and the Old Mission Women's Club, championed the grant proposal through the approval process after it was submitted by Ann Hackett.  Thanks to these three parishioners the lunch program has added dollars for this feeding program for our neighbors in need.  The Friday Community Meal has been in place for 27 years and is supported solely by donations from the congregation and the community.  Great job and many thanks to Ann, Brenda and Donna!

Good luck Trey and Cole. We are proud of you!!

Pantry Needs Six Volunteers - can you help?
Our food pantry is in need of three volunteers to work the following shifts on a monthly basis:
4th Friday
OR
1st Monday
We have just one volunteer committed to those shifts - perhaps you can give two hours once a month to help feed our hungry neighbors. Please contact Nancy Johnson for more information and to sign up, at (231) 668-9633 or [email protected] .

Office Hours Changing in May
Beginning the week of May 1, the office will be open 9am to 3pm Monday through Thursday. On Friday, May 4, the office will be open 9am to 12noon. Beginning May 11, the office will be closed on Fridays. The Food Pantry will be open and pantry calls will still by taken by a volunteer. Please contact Kathryn+ with any questions.

Thank you from Safe Harbor leaders
Safe Harbor thanks all the volunteers who stepped up recently to fill two extra weeks of volunteer slots, due to our extended winter. They have been hosting an average of about 60 people per night at the shelter on Wellington. Your efforts insured that our brothers and sisters in need would have a warm, safe place in which to sleep.  You are truly the hands and feet of Christ in our community. With the arrival of warmer weather (finally), the shelter will be closing its doors until next fall. See you then!  Thank you and God Bless.

Turn in your Oleson's receipts to benefit the Grace Food Pantry!

Oleson's Community Share Program

Here's how it works:
  1. You shop at Oleson's for groceries (liquor sales do not qualify for points)
  2. Turn in your receipts to the church.  Look for the envelope on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall, and place your receipts inside it.
  3. We submit receipts back to Oleson's
  4. We are granted cash rewards for the food pantry ($1 spent on groceries = 1 cent in Community Share points)

For every $5000 in receipts we submit, we receive $50 in cash for our food pantry.  Every little bit helps!

Thank you for participating!
