Last Days of School
A Message From Superintendent Thomas Ambrose

The last day of school for students (not seniors) will be Tuesday, June 19, 2018. Seniors will graduate on Friday, June 15, 2018.
Senior Spotlight : Jazmin Alvarado
An Article by Principal Brian M. Stack

It is my pleasure and honor to be able to write a senior spotlight for one of our school's most motivated, dedicated, and determined students - Jazmin Alvarado. Jazmin is in a very unique situation as a senior at Sanborn --- she isn't technically a senior at all! That is right, Jazmin is currently a junior, but she plans to graduate as a member of the Class of 2018 with the seniors. She will do so having completed all of her required courses, going above and beyond to be one of the top academic students in the school.

In preparation to be an early graduate, Jazmin has been taking extra classes each year since she started high school, either in the summer or online. In her third and final year at Sanborn, Jazmin is enrolled in a rigorous course of study that includes SNHU college courses in Human Anatomy and Spanish IV, a GBCC college course in English, and Sanborn courses in honors Calculus and AP Biology, among other things. Jazmin's teachers would tell you that she is wise beyond her years, and she works hard to make sure she has a complete mastery of anything presented in class. She is not afraid to ask questions, and she contributes regularly to class discussions.

Outside of academics, Jazmin has been involved in a number of clubs and activities at Sanborn. Here is a focus on just a few of those experiences: Teacher Kathy Giovando recalls her experiences working with Jazmin on the Justice Committee. She had this to say about Jazmin in that role: "Jazmin has a profound sense of fairness and commitment when dealing with sensitive issues that help restore justice to the Sanborn Community." Jazmin is also a very active member of the Sanborn Leo's Club. In that role, with her peers, she has been involved in a number of prevention and community service activities. Most notably, she has helped develop a teen recreation center known as Austin 17House. Jazmin's efforts in this project will positively impact Sanborn students for many years to come. Math teacher Dr. Timothy Young recognizes Jazmin as a valuable, consistent, and "fun" member of the school's math team. Lastly, Athletic Director Vicki Parady-Guay describes Jazmin as a hardworking and dedicated student, having been a big part of the school's field hockey, indoor track, and spring track teams.

This fall, Jazmin will start her studies at the University of New Hampshire where she will study biomedical engineering. We know she will do great things, and we are proud to say she is a part of the Sanborn family!

Senior Spotlight : Amy Rockwell
An Article by Teacher Heather Wheeler

Although the calendar indicates that spring has arrived, snow and ice are still the norm as this year's Senior Class approaches its last April vacation from high school. When we return in May, although every senior will surely look forward to graduation, Amy Rockwell takes note that she will miss her friends here at SRHS.

A hard working student, Amy has taken advantage of many opportunities that Sanborn has to offer during her years here. She has been a member of Sanborn's theatre program all four years, and this is perhaps where her interest was sparked to participate in the Elections Class of 2016. Her participation in this semester long simulation of the presidential election was a highlight for Amy during her high school coursework. It serves as an example of the type of relevant, real world experiences Amy has sought out to prepare her to meet her goals after high school. With her focus on that end, Amy is interested in pursuing a career in dentistry, and this year is completing an internship in a dentist office as part of Sanborn's ELO program.

I had the pleasure of teaching two of Amy's four science courses here at Sanborn, Physical Science and Chemistry. While Amy found science challenging, she was a determined and unflappable student, always willing to continue working until she mastered a concept. This is no surprise given Amy's tremendous work ethic. Throughout high school she has maintained jobs both at Riverwoods and Market Basket, all the while prioritising her learning and making time to spend with family and friends.

Amy will be missed when she leaves Sanborn. I look forward to watching as she takes steps towards a bright future! Congratulations Amy and the Class of 2018!
Senior Spotlight : Nick Lang
An Article by Teachers Brian Hurley, John Welch, and Counselor Dianne McCarthy

When seeing him on the field, some may think Nick Lang is tenacious and ruthless, which is different from how he is perceived in the school setting. Nick is someone who will come into a situation and be calm, insightful, and combining those traits with the ones we see in sports allows him to achieve many of his goals that may be more difficult for one to accomplish.

Nick is an ambitious student and it shows in the courses he takes, never shying away from a course that someone who favors math and science might not succeed in.  In fact, a class like AP History is a class that has challenged his thought process in a way that helped him to realize how much he enjoys the challenge and is now taking AP US Government.  His planning and awareness is impressive for someone of his age.

When someone meets Nick they will recognize that he is an athlete, and an individual who truly enjoys the "team" aspect of team sports.  His love of sports such as football, rugby and snowboarding has caused him heartache over his high school years with multiple knee injuries and two surgeries his sophomore and junior year.   While many athletes would have given up after a second surgery, Nick did not. This past football season he continued to be an integral part of the team even though he was not medically cleared to play. He showed up to practice each and every day encouraging his team to do their best. Nick demonstrated true leadership skills with his selfless dedication to the team, and is respected by players and coaches alike.

Nick has several college options at this time, all schools with a military program which is another passion.  We know that wherever he chooses to attend will be as lucky to have him as Sanborn was!

Graduation Date Set for June 15, 2018
A Message From Principal Brian M. Stack

Dear Seniors,
It is hard to believe your time at Sanborn is almost over! This is an exciting time of year with many events and activities culminating with graduation set for Friday, June 15, 2018 . Congratulations to all seniors on your many accomplishments.
If weather permits, we will hold graduation on the library lawn. In the event of poor weather, we may have to hold graduation in the gymnasium. If this is the case all attendees will need a ticket to enter the gym. The week of graduation you will receive eight (8) admission tickets for the gymnasium ceremony. That same week, we will also hold a lottery to distribute any extra tickets that we can to families that need more than 8 tickets. Due to fire code regulations, we may not be able to accommodate all requests for additional tickets. You are encouraged to ask your classmates if they have extra tickets they could give you if you need more than eight.

The following is a list of senior activities for the remainder of the school year. Seniors who are on the "probationary" graduation list are not permitted to participate in senior activities and should speak to their counselor to find out what they need to do to be removed from probation. Please note the mandatory activities and graduation practices on June 14 and 15. Please also remember that all students must have their $50 class dues ($20 senior dues) paid in order to participate in the graduation ceremonies.

Did you know? From April of 2015 - May 2017, this fundraiser has helped us raise nearly $2400.00 for the PTO. Help us double that number by sharing this opportunity with your friends, your family, and your neighbors!
