MNDOT
Marshall Safety Demonstration Project
The Minnesota Department of Transportation is partnering with the city of Marshall to test a safety
project along Hwy
19/College Dr. for people who walk and bike.
The project being temporarily installed is a median island refuge at Hwy 19/College Dr. and High
Street (near the school). An example of the project is pictured below. A median refuge island
allows people who walk and bike the ability to cross only one lane of traffic at a time, which
shortens the distance for crossing and provides a refuge.
The project will be installed the week of Sept. 14ᵗʰ and will be in place for approximately 30
days. During the 30 days we
ask that you take some time to try out the project and provide us with your comments. After 30
days, the projects will be removed.
To give us your feedback on this project, a short survey is available at
the back of this letter) and send to MnDOT District 8 or drop off at Marshall City Hall (temporary
location) at 1501 State St. SS 141 (SMSU). Paper surveys are also available at Marshall City Hall
(temporary location). Thank you in advance for your feedback about the potential safety
enhancement.
If you have any questions about the project, please visit the project website or contact Lindsey
Bruer, Planning Director.
