 March 30, 2020

It's time to get ready for Easter! But this year things are different; things don't look or feel the same. Our schedules and lives - the world's - have been changed... forever. The whole idea behind "social distancing" is putting others first, and that shouldn't be a foreign concept to those who follow the love of God, a love that put us first, giving for us the greatest sacrifice. Like we find in Philippians 2:1-4 and 1 Corinthians 10:24, we are instructed to consider needs beyond ourselves and our immediate families.
How can we help our neighbors?
It's been 100 years since the world has seen a pandemic like COVID-19; so, there probably are very few, if any, who would remember what is was like during the Spanish Flu. But more people died from that novel virus than in WWI, estimated between 30-50 million. Like us, they had no medicine or vaccines. What they did have was the ability to isolate and distance themselves; areas that didn't abide were devastated.
How can we help our neighbors?
We can help our neighbors by staying at home. By using our telephones and our Bibles. By running important errands for and checking on those whose health is at a greater risk. We can help by remaining prayerful. We can be faithful to God's word to help our neighbors, even if that means it's from a distance.
     We continue to praise.

A song I sing to my children for comfort:
"Your Love Oh Lord" (Psalm 36:5-7) - Third Day
Your love, oh Lord
Reaches to the heavens
Your faithfulness stretches to the sky
Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains
Your justice flows like the ocean's tide
I will lift my voice
To worship You, my King
I will find my strength
In the shadow of Your wings

Daily Devotions for the Season of Lent
A Lenten daily devotional was compiled by the Laity of The West Virginia Conference of The United Methodist Church. To download a PDF version of this devotional, or to read each day online, click here. Please meditate on each daily reading, and pray for God's Spirit to direct your life in a special way during this season of Lent.

Your Prayers & Thanksgivings
While it's highly unlikely that we will be able to reopen the church during the month of April, we welcome your regular prayers and continued giving. This is the perfect time to learn about our online giving option. Click here to access the online giving instructions from the Forrest Burdette website . Your continued giving to the church during this time, as you are able, is important for us to keep paying our expenses. If not online, then please mail your regular offering to 2848 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane WV 25526. To save a stamp, you may deposit your offering in our locked mailbox on Putnam Avenue. Open the top door, and slide your envelope all the way to the back of the box, where it will fall into the locked area. Thank you, as always, for your support of this ministry.

UMW Egg Factory & Spring Festival
Due to the current situation regarding covid-19, the decision has been made to cancel this year's chocolate Easter egg project and the Spring Festival that was to be held on April 4. This decision has been made in the best interest of everyone involved. The UMW is contacting those who paid for eggs and festival spaces. Please spread the word. Thank you for your understanding during this unique time!
