From the Desk of Our Executive Director
For more than 30 years I have been immersed in the Alameda County child care field as an employee of 4Cs of Alameda County. I've watched the support for child care at the county, state, and country wax and wane as elected officials' and voters' priorities change. This June, the voters of Alameda County can make the biggest impact to the early care and education field in recent memory at their local polling place. If you've been reading our newsletters or follow 4Cs on Facebook or Twitter, you know that, in an unprecedented move of support for early care and education, earlier this year the Alameda County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to place ballot Measure A: Alameda County Child Care and Early Education Measure on June's ballot. Now, with just 40 days until voting day, it is time to take action. Learn the facts. Join the campaign. Endorse the measure. And, on June 5th, vote YES on Measure A to provide access to affordable quality care and education and support to ECE providers and teachers.

Measure A: The Facts
What is Measure A?

Measure A reads: To expand access to childcare and preschool for low- and middle-income families; help homeless and at-risk children, including help preventing child abuse and neglect; attract and retain quality childcare workers; and add spaces for childcare at locations throughout the county, shall the County of Alameda enact a 30-year 0.5% sales tax providing approximately 140 million dollars annually with citizens' oversight, public disclosure of spending, and mandatory annual audits?

Alameda County Child Care And Early Education Measure Program Plan has two components and a robust governing body and organizational structure. Component 1 includes new scholarships for child care, prioritizing homeless and low-income families. Component 2 focuses on improving quality of care and child care sites and increasing wages for child care providers. The governing body and organizational structure will be designated by the Board of Supervisors and include an administering entity, citizen's oversight committee, and planning and advisory council. The Yes on Measure A: Care for Our Children campaign is in full swing and there are ample opportunities to help spread the word about the measure the impact equitable access to high-quality care and education will have for generations of Alameda County's families. Visit the Yes on Measure A website to get started. Sign up to phone bank and walk precincts. Write letters to your local elected officials encouraging them to endorse Measure A. Follow the campaign on Facebook and share with your friends, family, and neighbors the importance of this historic legislation.
