Nominate Your Favorites for Best of Westchase Contest
Outta the way, Oscars! Git gone, Grammys! Ease on down the road, Emmys! After an extended absence, the only awards that really matter have returned: Best of Westchase.
Whether you live in Westchase District or merely "reside" here during workday hours, you probably have your favorite places to eat, shop and maybe even hide from your boss. We celebrated and honored your local favorites in 2005 and 2010, and we decided it's time to rekindle the love affair with all things Westchase. We want to hear from you, so let 'er rip!
We're accepting nominations through Friday, March 29.
Voting will take place from April 8 through April 26. We'll announce the winners, present them with a commemorative plaque and buy each of them an appetizer at a happy hour event in early May (details to follow soon). Also, we'll have a special results section in the Summer 2019 issue of Westchase Today. So send in your nominations and stay tuned...it's going to be
the best

City Rebuilds Sidewalks Along Westpark Drive
For those of you who feel your voices often go unheard, here's a bit of good news. An anonymous citizen living with a disability was concerned about the deteriorating conditions of the sidewalks on the north side of Westpark Drive between Briarpark Drive and Gessner Road. This person, who lives in the Westpark/Gessner area, reported the sidewalks to the City of Houston and then submitted an application to the City's Safe Sidewalk Program. The program is a service of the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities, which advocates for the rights and needs of citizens with disabilities.

Market Hours Now from 3 to 7 p.m.
Okay, now that we've all sprung forward and had a chance to catch up on our lost hour of sleep, it's time to make use of that extra daylight. If you haven't visited the Westchase District Farmers Market because it just doesn't mesh with your work schedule, we've removed your excuse. Until Thursday, November 7, the market is open weekly from 3 to 7 p.m. That's perfect timing for checking it out before your commute home!
Come Take a Selfie with Us This Week
Last week, we were all set to unveil a new feature to the District's tent at the market: a caricature farm scene with two cutouts where shoppers can place their faces for fun selfies. However, gusty winds that would have turned the tent wall into a big sail made us reconsider. That means that you can still come get one of the first selfies with our new attraction this week...that is, if no wind advisories are in effect.

Check out our new "comic foreground" debuting (weather permitting) at the market this week.

Attention Trail Users: We Now Have Blue Light Specials
As an added amenity, Westchase District recently installed eight emergency call boxes at various locations along the District's trail system.
The 10-foot, solar-powered towers are equipped with video cameras and allow trail users to call the District's dispatch service, which can send officers to each station.
"The call boxes provide trail users with a level of confidence as well as a form of communication during many scenarios that may arise," McKinney said. "That could be anything from reporting suspicious activity to requesting assistance with urgent health issues."
High school intern Connor Elliott contributed to this story. Thanks, Connor!
