Nearly 50 community partners joined IMPACT on March 1st to participate in Creating a Coordinated Response to Community Crisis. Professionals from emergency management, health and human affairs, social services, United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County, and the media engaged in meaningful discussion and demonstrated a genuine commitment to collaboration and coordination.

The group shared valuable insight when presented with the following questions:
  • What are the needs of the most vulnerable in our community?
  • What are the needs of service providers?
  • What have we done well during a crisis?
  • What challenges/gaps have been experienced in our community during a crisis?
With guidance from event facilitator and IMPACT Chief Operating Officer, Sue Beck-Riekkoff, attendees identified three primary areas for planning groups moving forward: availability/access to services and the funding to support it; education and training of staff and volunteers; and communication across entities and systems.

During the discussion about next steps, attendees were given the opportunity to select an area in which they have expertise or interest to brainstorm solutions. Efforts focusing on improved communication received the most expressed interest from the group to explore tangible solutions. The two other areas will also receive attention. Please be patient as we determine our approach moving forward.

Special thanks to United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County for lending use of their Johnson Controls Volunteer Center.
Congratulations to the 2019 Marquette President's Challenge Winners!

IMPACT Planning and Evaluation works with numerous community partners to support local programs and initiatives by developing data infrastructure, building evaluation capacity, and providing user-friendly feedback grounded in data. We are excited to announce that an initiative which we partner with, the Milwaukee Coalition for Children's Mental Health (CCMH) , is among a team of organizations recently awarded the first Marquette President's Challenge grant!

Marquette University President Michael Lovell recently announced the winning project during his annual Presidential Address . The grant will provide $250,000 over the next two years to develop an interdisciplinary children's mental health/development clinic at Next Door in Metcalfe Park. The goal for the "Next Step Clinic" is to increase access to developmental assessment and evaluation, as well as to connect children to services using a family navigator model.

The project will be implemented by a team of Marquette faculty led by associate professor of psychology Amy Van Hecke, in collaboration with CCMH, Mental Health America of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Area Technical College, MIRACLE Network, Next Door Foundation, True Love Baptist Ministries, and Milwaukee Succeeds Kindergarten Readiness Partnership/United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County. Watch this video to learn more.

IMPACT's Planning and Evaluation team serves as the evaluators for the CCMH initiative, which is funded by the   Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment at the Medical College of Wisconsin. We are proud to support CCMH and its partners as they bring their vision for the Next Step Clinic to life!
New campaign promotes BadgerCare Plus enrollment

IMPACT partner, Milwaukee Enrollment Network (MKEN), has launched a campaign to increase enrollment for BadgerCare Plus - which is open throughout the year.

Wisconsin's health insurance plan covers doctor visits, vaccines, mental health care, addiction assistance, dental care and many other services needed to be healthy. All services are free or low-cost to eligible residents.

There are 67,000 people in Milwaukee County who don't have health insurance and many of them qualify for BadgerCare Plus. The campaign aims to raise awareness and remove common myths so that everyone who qualifies can benefit from health insurance coverage.

To help promote BadgerCare Plus, please click here for resources. With special thanks to Covering Wisconsin, there are also videos to explain "What is covered with BadgerCare Plus?" in English and Spanish.

IMPACT changes lives, for good. We help people take the first step to resolve a crisis and create a path toward stabilization; as well as collaborate with our partners to foster system improvement.
