Beretta Farms offices move back to their rural roots
Toward the end of last year, York Region's Beretta Farms moved their head offices back to their King City farm. We recently connected with them to hear a bit more about the move.

“As our office has been located in Etobicoke for the past 20 years, the move to the farm was so exciting,” co-owner Cynthia Beretta shares. “Offering our clients full transparency to visit our office and also see the full operation of one of our cattle herds, our outdoor pig production and collecting eggs from our laying hens gives them hands-on experience of what the farm life is all about.” Read more on our blog here .
A Guide for Reducing Food Loss & Waste
A new practical guide and technical report for measuring food loss and waste across the food supply chain has been released by the Commission for Environmental Cooperation.

Provision Coalition , a leading voice on sustainability for the food & beverage manufacturing sector in Canada, was on the expert advisory committee.

The guide provides a step-by-step plan for how companies and governments can begin the process of measuring food loss and waste. Learn more .
Durham Region 2019 Farm Connections Open House
Durham Region residents are invited to attend this year’s  Farm Connections Open House , taking place on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at the Luther Vipond Memorial Arena!

This annual, interactive event provides attendees with an opportunity to learn about agriculture through various stations, including meeting with farmers and livestock; as well as learning about dairy, beef, poultry, sheep, maple syrup, vegetables, apples and crops.

Admission is free but donations of non-perishable food item will be gratefully accepted on behalf of the local food bank.

News from the Province
The Ontario Government has established the final goal of the Local Food Act, focusing on efforts to "remove red tape barriers" and open the door for local food in the broader public sector . The Golden Horseshoe Food and Farming Alliance welcomes this announcement and is well prepared to offer advice for procuring local food in the broader public sector, particularly the long-term sector.  Read more here .
