Laboratory Automation Edition

We're excited to share the latest updates on the Multi-Probe Micromanipulator (MPM) System. Simple to set up and operate, the MPM System is the first micro-manipulator designed specifically for use with silicon neural probes for acute in-vivo recording. The compact system allows for independent positioning of multiple probes in the smallest space, with ample clear area for a virtual task environment. Automatically and independently move each probe to the optimum location in the brain.

Latest updates include longer travel and higher force in the motorized stages, and the ability to control more probes from one PC window. Get the details below!

Using the MPM System
This new video demonstrates how to pre-position the probe arms in five degrees of freedom, using the reference probe to prevent damage to your delicate neural probes. Then it shows the three axes of motorized motion for fine positioning, including the ultra-slow z-axis insertion mode.

Motorized axes have higher force, 15mm travel
IMAGE_ MOTORIZED POSITIONER FOR PROBES
Each probe arm has four degrees of freedom for initial pre-adjustment, and three axes of motorized positioning.

The motorized stages allow precise control of x-y location and z insertion.

The latest model has 15 mm of travel on each motorized axis and supports a payload of up to 200 grams.

Fully-integrated motion control software is included with the system. The software controls up to eight micropositioners (a total of 24 axes of automated motion) in a single window. Open additional instances of the software to control more than eight probes.

Stereotaxic Coordinate System
A Virtual Coordinate System (VCS) is in development to help researchers compute the approach angle of each probe, removing real-time geometry puzzles from the time it takes to do a recording.

The MPM System has angle or displacement markings on each coarse degree of freedom (polar angle, arm length, arm height and arm angle). Today you can enter the information from those markings into the MPM System Software to register the location of your probe in stereotaxic coordinates.

New Scale is working with experts in the field to interface a VCS sytsem as a plug-in extension to the MPM System Software.
