Swim-Bike-Run-Community-Fun  That is our tagline. What does it mean?

Of course, we are going to Swim, Bike and Run.  But what does it mean when you add Community and Fun to the equation? It creates a Synergy, allowing the sum of the parts to be greater than the value of the individual parts themselves.

Community - Instead of training in isolation, the club provides an opportunity to train together. The club allows us to build ties with the local coaching community and put on educational seminars and programs. It allows us to gather, volunteer, and give back to the sport and the active lifestyle that we have chosen.

Fun - It allows us to gather and celebrate our accomplishments and the efforts and personal struggles that each of us faces on the way to the start line.

Your active participation in TTC fuels our Synergy

Volunteer Opportunity - Raleigh 70.3

TTC, along with the Cary YMCA is staffing Bike Aid Station #2 on the Raleigh 70.3 Course. We do this to give back to the Triathlon community and at the same time we raise funds for a local charity by way of a donation from the IRONMAN Foundation.

The picture shows all of the volunteers it takes to run an aid station. If you are not racing we really need you to volunteer.

SO FAR WE HAVE 10 of the 50 VOLUNTEERS WE NEED

Why We Hate Open Water

by Coach Stacey Richardson,  published author of "Open Water Worries" on Active.com.

It's that season again and it's time to address our open water woes.

Moving from the pool to outdoors is a challenge for everyone and returning to our local lakes stirs up fear for many.   In my coaching experience, it's essential to sort out the factors contributing to poor open water execution and to troubleshoot them one by one.    Run through this checklist to improve your open water race performance.

1. Does your wetsuit fit?     Winter weight doesn't lie when squeezed into neoprene.   This is a harsh performance reality.  Face it fully and acknowledge where you are on your personal spectrum. Then do something about it.

2.  Are you swim fit?     Do your pool sessions include stress-inducing high-end efforts? They MUST!!!   Being comfortable out of breathe translates readily to race day.  Your respiration rate will increase for various reasons- cold, panic, or effort.   Be prepared by training to this level in the pool.
3.   Best stroke form.   If you sense you are losing your stroke due to panic or cold, then you are indeed fighting the water.   Regain your control and your efficiency by slowing down, exhaling for 3 counts, and settling into a slower rhythm.   Develop a swim mantra.  My personal favorite is a swim waltz:   1-2-3 breathe.  1-2-3-breathe.

4.   Build you skills: Perfect practice makes perfect.  Get help with your execution by practicing!   Swim hard. Bump your friends. Swim time trials.  Swim in a pack. Make your practice sessions like race day and go after it!

If you want to work on your skills with a coach, please join my small group skill sessions at Jordan Lake.   All levels of swimmer welcome.

IRONMAN CLUB Affiliation

Triangle Triathlon Club participates in the IRONMAN Tri Club Program.  Last year we finished 2nd in the Americas and 3rd in the world standings in division 3. This year we have been moved to division 1, so the competition will be much greater.

We earn points by your race participation and finish times.

We use these points to get early entry into races, special bike race placement and VIP pass at races.

We need all club members who are doing IRONMAN races to be affiliated with our club on the IRONMAN website.  How do I declare my affiliation with TTC?
