The RNA Transcript - March 30, 2020
This week at the Center for RNA Biomedicine...
STAY HOME, STAY SAFE
Wishing you all good health.

The antiviral disables RNA replication machinery in MERS and SARS viruses. Can it beat back SARS-CoV-2?
How does it work? The drug is incorporated into the viral RNA genome when the virus is trying to replicate, and that leads to the termination of the synthesis of the RNA.

Moderna’s platform is based on injecting mRNA into cells to produce protein in human cells.
“We don’t guess the biology—we use the biology of nature.”
–Stéphane Bancel, Moderna’s CEO

Discover our RNA Student and Postdoc Council:
What they do, who they are
  • Established in September of 2019, the RNA Student Postdoc Council represents the next generation of RNA scientists. The Council collaborates across disciplines, and generates innovative ideas to advance RNA research and education across the University of Michigan.
  • The Council was awarded a competitive RNA Salon Grant from the RNA Society to fund future activities, including:
  • The RNA Function – a summer RNA event that will offer interactive workshops and networking events
  • RNA Skills share - a publicly accessible directory of researchers who are willing to share their expertise and knowledge
  • Outreach activities to introduce RNA science to the community. This includes a partnership with the University of Michigan Museum of Natural History.
“Being a member of this Council has introduced me to fellows from departments across the University that I likely would not have interacted much with before...”
—Ciara Witt, Ph.D. Candidate, Department of Biophysics and Chemistry

"We all have very different backgrounds, and bring specific sets of skills to our group (grant writing, techniques, networks, fundraising, teaching, outreach etc.)...”
—Ashley Kalinski, Ph.D., Department of Cellular & Developmental Biology

All seminars and meetings are held remotely.
