March, 2019 - In This Issue:
From the Desk of Our Executive Director
We'll miss you, Angie!
In March we celebrate Women's History Month and, in the Early Care and Education field, there are too many women who have made a huge mark in our field to list here. From Maria Montessori to Marcy Whitebook to the 1.2 million child care professionals in the United States who identify as women, we are lucky to be lifted up and surrounded by strong, powerful, caring women. I would be remiss if I didn't recognize one of the women who has raised the ECE consciousness in Alameda County and, this March, is handing over to reigns to pursue a national position supporting child care. I met Angie Garling about 20 years ago when she began her role in the county as the Alameda County Early Care and Education Planning Coordinator. Shortly thereafter, she was promoted to oversee all of the county's work as it pertains to ECE. Angie's expertise, passion, and knowledge have far surpassed the confines of Alameda County. She is the go-to person for many ECE advocates and policy-makers statewide - and nationwide - to help them develop new, innovative approaches to making high quality child care equitable and accessible to all. Most recently, Angie's work was at the core of Measure A in Alameda County and Measure AA in Oakland. Angie's impact in the county and statewide has been incredible and, while her presence and perseverance will be missed, we wish her all the best in her next chapter as she joins other powerful woman making their mark in the nationwide effort for greater support for early care and education.

Be well,
