SCHEDULE REMINDER: EARLY SERVICE AT 8AM STARTING APRIL 8TH
|
|
During our Aloha Hour celebration after Easter services Reverend Mary offered a sending forth blessings prayer for Reverend Ryan as he leaves for his sabbatical and for Doctor Erin as she remains here to care for her patients. The congregation offered their prayers and best wishes for the couple through a chain of touch (pictured) as Rev. Mary prayed. Rev. Ryan will be walking the 500 mile pilgrimage of the Camino de Santiago through France and Northern Spain, ending in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. The pilgrims’ path is marked with images of the scallop shell in lieu of road signs. Rev. Ryan will be taking Kauai’s version of the scallop shell, a sunrise shell, in a rosary with koa and jade beads and a koa cross made by CeCe Caldwell. You can follow Rev. Ryan’s steps by reading his blog posts.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP AT ALL SAINTS'
|
|
Believing all creation is interconnected and grace is present in all God’s creation, we commit to take an active and holistic approach to environmental stewardship through education, service, and sustainable practices.
Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts-Schori, Ret.
The words of the Presiding Bishop echo the sentiment in the resolution of the 75th General Convention of the Episcopal Church to make the Millennium Development Goals a top mission priority. The seventh of the the eight goals is to
Ensure Environmental Sustainability
. The diocese of Hawaii, isolated in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, has a special relationship with the ‘aina. At All Saints’ we hope to demonstrate being good stewards of the ‘aina with some special activities during the month of April in conjunction with Earth Day, celebrated worldwide on April 22.

ORGAN PROJECT UPDATE
New Façade Installed
|
Aloha All Saints’ 'Ohana,
The organ façade was recently transported to Tom at Craftsmen Fine Finishes in
Lawai
to be stained and sealed. Despite rainy weather the fa
ç
ade was finished and installed for Easter. The finish used is marine grade and will stand the test of time from the salt air. With a few exceptions, the organ casework was originally Walnut veneer. The old organ case was enlarged and then veneered, except the detail work, in Sapele, a termite resistant wood species similar to Mahogany. Byron and I used an acoustically transparent cloth,
Melotone,
to cover the screens behind the tall wood vertical screen panels of the organ. They allow for no sound obstruction from the organ’s pipes which will be placed in the organ room behind the screen. Additional screens will be behind each tower and the center pipes array. These are very important as they will keep most bugs and pests as well as most salt air and dirt from entering the main organ chamber. It is thoughtful ideas like this that will protect this world class instrument during its serviceable life at All Saints’ Church.
In Christ,
S. Morris Wise

CELEBRATE THE EXPECTED ARRIVAL OF BABY WAKUTA
Aloha "Baby Shower" Hour on April 8th
Please join us after the 9:30AM service on Sunday, April 8th, in showering parents-to-be Maricel and Kiley Wakuta, who are expecting a baby boy, with our love! Maricel and Kiley are still in need of essentials such as diapers, diaper cloths, and wipes, as well as clothes for the 6-12 month age range, or anything else you think they may need. They are also registered at
amazon.com
.
Please come to enjoy cake and conversation and to help them get ready to welcome their first child!
EMERGENCY PASTORAL CARE
There are now two new ways to request emergency pastoral care. Beginning March 1, 2018,
All Saints’ established an Emergency Pastoral Care Phone Number that is available 24 hours a day. Whenever you have a need for support, please call (650) 691-8104 and leave a voice mail. The system will immediately forward the information to the Pastoral CaEEre Committee who will respond to each request. In order to ensure that your need gets a timely response, it is important
not to call Rev. Ryan’s or Rev. Mary’s cell, if you have those numbers. The new pastoral emergency system utilizes the entire committee not just our clergy to make sure we respond as quickly as possible even in the rare instance that a member of the clergy is not available. If you prefer, you may send an electronic pastoral care request via email to
pastoralcare@allsaintskauai.org.
PRAYER CHAIN MINISTRY
To better protect the privacy of those we are praying for and to improve the communication standards of the
Prayer Chain Ministry, All Saints' announced some changes starting March 1, 2018.
Individuals who want to participate in the Prayer Chain Ministry must re-enroll to continue receiving the email communications. To re-enroll, please visit the newly established
Pastoral Care web page or contact the Church Office at (808) 822-4267. The new process will be supported by technology and not dependent on one individual to maintain the entire flow of information. Also, the updated process will provide for greater privacy protection.
SUBMITTING A PRAYER REQUEST
Prayer requests will now be
submitted online or by contacting the Church Office at (808) 822-4267. Those submitting the prayer request will continue to be allowed to submit detailed information; however, that information will be treated as confidential and will only be shared with the Pastoral Care Committee. The Prayer Chain Ministry, will receive an abbreviated email containing only the name of the person for whom they are to pray for and the “general” nature of their need (i.e. healing, thanksgiving, etc.)
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
As a congregation each Sunday, we pray for those in need by name during the Prayers of the People. During the discussions of the newly formed Pastoral Care Committee, it became evident that we needed to standardize and publicize a guide for including names in the Prayers of the People petitions. Names can be added to the Prayers of the People petitions by utilizing the
Prayer Chain Request form
or by contacting the Church Office at (808) 822-4267. Names will remain in the Prayers of the People for a maximum of four Sundays before a name must be resubmitted. Public petitions can always be offered during the appropriate time during the Prayers of the People when we pray for “those we name silently or aloud.”
LAUNDRY LOVE
All Saints' offers the
Laundry Love ministry the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 5:00PM - 8:30PM at the Kapaa Laundromat in the Kapaa Shopping Center.
The ministry needs more volunteers especially for Team A and Team B. Volunteers do not need to members of the Church. Volunteers wash, dry, and fold patrons' laundry. Each session, All Saints' does 70-90 loads of free laundry for the community. No laundry experience required! For more information,
visit here. If you are interested in volunteering for any of the above dates, please email the
Laundry Love Leaders. Please consider volunteering one of the following dates: March 21, April 4, April 18, May 2, May 16, June 6, and June 20.
HOME COMMUNION FOR SICK AND SHUT-INS
All Saints’ Eucharistic Visitors are available each Sunday (pending availability) to bring Communion to those who are sick or shut-in. Requests for a Eucharistic visitation can be made by calling the Church Office at (808) 822-4267 or emailing
homecommunion@allsaintskauai.org.
|
TRANSPORTATION MINISTRY
In the near future, the Pastoral Care Ministries of All Saints’ would like to establish a ministry offering transportation to services and events for our ‘Ohana who cannot drive or cannot drive at night. If you would be interested in volunteering for this future ministry, please email
pastoralcare@allsaintskauai.org or call the Church Office at (808) 822-4267.
