Our Ballard

The Ballard SeafoodFest draws more than 75,000 visitors and locals to our neighborhood to celebrate all our neighborhood has to offer. The growing festival is representative of our bustling corner of Seattle surrounded by natural beauty, with deep maritime and Nordic roots, teaming with character and boasting an incredible array of shops, restaurants and breweries. The 2018 Ballard SeafoodFest - July 13, 14 and 15 - is a chance for the community to welcome visitors from near and far and demonstrate why so many people find the amenities and charm of Ballard irresistible. It is easy to become braggadocios about Ballard, but we are humbled by the amount of care and concern that businesses and residents share for the neighborhood. So every year - for the past 44 years - the community has come together to celebrate all the great things about Ballard and share it with the rest of the world.

SeafoodFest allows us to showcase our businesses and services during the festival and supports programs that better the neighborhood throughout the entire year. In a summer full of music festivals and concerts, SeafoodFest's distinguishing characteristic is that it is free! Our music lineup keeps getting better and better each year, and this year is on a course to bring a record number of fans to the Gravity Payments MainStage. We are able to provide quality entertainment and acts to the festival thanks to our sponsors. Sponsors like Trident Seafoods, who for decades has provided the salmon for our famous Alder-smoked salmon barbeque dinner.

The collage of logos represents the businesses and organizations, and this is just a portion, that have chosen to support this year's festival.

To learn more about the businesses and organizations that support the Ballard community, check out our Ballard SeafoodFest Sponsor page.

We would be remiss to not mention the other factor that helps us produce this festival and keep it free and open to all - our volunteers. You don't have to own a business to be a part of this event.

We are still accepting volunteers and your individual efforts will be rewarded with a complementary salmon dinner, a fun time and a volunteer after party in late July or August.

Additionally, this is a great opportunity for the teenagers in your life to receive community service hours. The only requirements are that volunteers are prepared to have fun, work hard and share their positive attitude.

There are a variety of positions available on our easy  online volunteer form .

From the moment Patagonia opened their workwear concept store in Ballard last summer, they have jumped in to become involved and invested in our community. They are a featured Ballard Artwalk venue, Major sponsors for Ballard SeafoodFest and support local causes. We recently asked Patagonia Ballard's store manager, Matt McConeghy why the company chose Ballard for their Patagonia Workwear and provisions flagship store. This is what he had to share with us:

Why Ballard?

We created Patagonia's Workwear line, a new collection of durable clothing made with farmers, builders, ranchers, foresters, and environmental activists in mind, to offer superior, function-specific workwear that uses less harmful materials and withstands the rigors of the field or the job site. Historically, Ballard, with its unique position just a block away from the bustling Salmon Bay waterfront where shingle and lumber mills flourished, served as the city's central commercial district. We couldn't dream of a better place than Ballard to open our first store.

What does Reclaim, Reuse, Restore mean to your location?

For both environmental and aesthetic reasons, we use reclaimed materials to build out our stores. On this site, we utilized reclaimed scaffolding boards acquired from Earthwise Architectural Salvage to create the wood planking found on the back wall and in our Provisions section. We salvaged the smaller steel clad window frames from the Smith Tower in Seattle, and we repurposed picnic tables and benches to build the larger image frames. And, to preserve the building's historic significance, we also uncovered and restored the original 1905 floor and brick walls.

What is your Community Connection?

As the first and only concept store and flagship for the Patagonia Workwear product line, we want to give our customers a unique experience in Ballard. Hosting several community driven events every month, offering up delicious Patagonia Provisions tastings and becoming a hub for environmental activism are just some of the efforts that drive our mission. Patagonia wants our stores to be gifts to the community and the Ballard store is no different!
