Key topics will include novel forms of service delivery and ways to communicate with clients, management and storage of electronic information, boundary issues, dual relationships, conflicts of interest, confidentiality, privileged communication, informed consent, clients' rights, documentation, and termination of services.

Across the nation, suicide rates are
climbing. This week alone, we have witnessed two high-profile suicides with the tragic deaths of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain. July will see the release of the Robin Williams biopic,

. High profile suicides and the intense media coverage that accompany them can be extremely triggering for individuals who are suffering and make it much more likely that we will experience an increase in copycat responses. Now is the time for social workers to be especially alert to vulnerabilities among our clients and in the communities in which we work.

Better Metaphors Needed to Convey Self-Care As Essential
The National Association of Social Workers considers self-care essential, and better terms and metaphors are needed to convey the importance of ongoing self-care, writes social worker Erlene Grise-Owens. For example, the commonly used airplane oxygen mask metaphor can give the impression that self-care is situational when it's actually better conveyed as something that's done continuously.

3-Day Clinical Supervision Courses
(20 CEUs)
This course if for those who have held their LCSW for at least 3 years and who wish to supervise LSWs seeking their clinical hours. The course meets the NJ BSWE requirement for 20 continuing education credits related to supervision, and also includes 5 Ethics and 3 Social/Cultural Competence CEUs. Courses are held at our NASW office in North Brunswick.
