Thanks
Mission Sunday Thank You
Last week, we had a lot of fun and were able to serve God, the Earth, and the community through our Mission Sunday projects on Earth Day. Thanks to all the team leaders, all those who loaned equipment and tools, all those who came and worked, all those who served as greeters for our guests, and everyone who donated in any way.

Sermon

"In Celebration of Faith, Love, Health and Service -
Reports from Earth Day Mission Sunday"

Scripture Lesson: John 21:8-14

This Sunday
Thank you all for your faith, health, love, and service as it was in great supply last Sunday! Our Earth Day Mission Sunday teams did great work for God, for the community, and for the Earth. Thank you!

This week, we gather again in a single service at 10:00am to hear from all the teams, to celebrate the work they did, and the movement of the Holy Spirit through their work. The service will be followed by a Local Foods Potluck lunch so bring some food to share. During lunch, there will be a speaker from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) who will be speaking about an opportunity that the Core Leaders are considering to be in partnership with NAMI to host peer support groups here at Aldersgate. Plan to stay to learn how faith, love, health, and service just keep growing the church and the community together in our efforts to support those who most need support. In worship, we'll hear the story from John 21: 8-14 of the Risen Christ on the lakeshore, sharing a meal with the disciples as he prepared them for what was ahead. We'll see if we can also share a meal and ask God to prepare us for what is ahead for us as well.
MINISTRY NEWS
Mission Celebration Sunday & NAMI Speaker
On April 29, the Sunday after Mission Sunday, we will gather again to celebrate the ways we were in service to our community, the new friends we made, and the way that God worked in us as a result of being in our mission field. We will have one blended worship service at 10:00am on April 29th.
Local Foods Lunch
After worship, there will be a Local Foods potluck lunch. Please plan to bring something to share that has ingredients local to the area within 100 miles of your home. Again in honor of Earth Day, the request is that we try to reduce the impact on the planet from our lunch by consuming foods that have been grown or raised close to home.

Guest Speaker
During lunch, we will have a speaker from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). Bellevue City Council member, Janice Zahn, brought to the attention of the Core Leaders theat NAMI's need for a location to host peer support groups for members of the NAMI community. The Core Leaders thought the congregation would like to hear more about the organization and how we might be able to partner with them in their work before making any decision. As an extension of our Mission Sunday work, this seemed like the perfect opportunity to hear from them. So please plan to stay for lunch and a chance to learn more about this chance to extend our Mission into the community.
Church Work Party
Saturday, April 28
Please join us on Saturday, April 28 from 9:00am-12:00pm as we work outside on the church landscaping.  It takes many helping hands to make the church look beautiful and welcoming.  If you can rake, prune and pull weeds, we could use your help. Please bring you favorite gardening tools and garden gloves.  Dress for the weather.  Come when you can; leave when you must.  All are welcome! Contact is Dave Carver.
Contribution Statements
Third quarter contribution statements were mailed out over a week ago. If you have any questions about your statement, please contact Wendi in the church office at [email protected].
Stewardship Letter & Pledge Card
Stewardship Sunday May 6th
The stewardship letter and pledge card were mailed out to the congregation earlier this week. We hope that you've had time to pray about your pledge to support Aldergate's programs and missions. Our goals are to have a balanced budget for the new fiscal year, July 1, 2018 - June 30, 2019, and to pay off our kitchen remodel loan by December 31, 2018. Please prayerfully consider how you can support Aldersgate through your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and love. Contact Pastor Laura or Melinda Lilley with your questions. Please return your pledge card on Sunday, May 6th or drop it at the church office.  In case you missed our stewardship mailing,  CLICK HERE  for the letter and pledge card. Your pledge is an invaluable part of planning for the future at Aldersgate, so that we can continue to be a place where love overflows.
Confirmation Corner
We have six youth participating in confirmation this year. Their prayer quilts are hanging in the narthex and will remain there until Confirmation Sunday on June 10th. Please say a prayer for these young people during this spiritual journey and tie a knot in their quilt. You are invited to follow along in this journey with them by reading this Confirmation Corner

After talking about the early church last week, we started this week by first looking over a chart that reviewed the main religions of the world and then another one which looked at several of the Christian denominations. We then dove into Methodism and figured out some of the important events such as The Aldersgate Experience (our church was not named after a tree!) and the Circuit Riders to name a few. We also talked a bit about John Wesley, the founder of Methodism and how he asked, "How is it with your soul?" We discussed how the wording of that question drew you in deeper and into a more real conversation than, "How are you?" We also discussed the Wesleyan Quadrilateral. They each drew out the Quadrilateral in a way that made sense to them and we talked about which of the four was easiest for us to relate to.
Summer Music
Calling all musicians! We are looking for any type of special music for the second service during the summer from mid-June through August. Voice, piano, small ensembles, bells or brass, all are welcome to share their gifts and talents with the congregation. Please contact Hanae Straub for more information.
Singers & Players Needed
Do you have a hidden talent for music that you'd like to put to use?  Or, maybe you know someone that doesn't come to church, but would benefit from having a place to display their musical talents for a loving and appreciative audience?   The 1st service worship band is always looking for players and singers to contribute their musical gifts, both often, and occasionally.  Our biggest need at present is for a bass player and a guitarist.  Seekers AND Believers are welcome. Young AND old are welcome.  All that is needed is a smidgen of talent, a desire to learn and be part of a grace filled music community, and willingness to show up early on a  Sunday  morning.  Practices are  on Thursday  evening.   Please help us grow by planting the bug in the ear of the musician that has not yet come forward.  You could be giving THEM a gift of a lifetime.    Contact 1st Service Music Director Roger Ingalls  or 425-894-8173.
