Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute Adds 24 Cardiologists to its Team with HeartWell Integration
Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, part of Baptist Health South Florida and the region's largest and most comprehensive cardiovascular facility, has just announced its integration with South Florida's premier cardiology group, HeartWell, LLC. The strategic alignment includes the addition of 24 physicians to the Institute's team of cardiovascular specialists and six practice sites to its portfolio of locations.

FIU Nursing Awards First Traineeships for Federal Pilot Program to Promote Rural Primary Care Workforce

The Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing & Health Sciences at Florida International University  
(FIU) in Miami has awarded $100,000 in traineeship grants to five FIU nurse practitioner graduate students to participate in the pilot of the  Advanced Nursing Education Workforce (ANEW) program. 

ANEW is a two-year nursing education initiative funded by the U.S. Human Resources & Services Administration for $1.39 million specifically to prepare advanced practice nurses to provide primary care in rural and underserved areas through academic and clinical training.  

"Many of today's 60 million rural Americans are uninsured, at risk for increased health risk behaviors, and live in poverty at even higher levels than what we see in our big cities," remarked Tami Thomas, PhD, RN, FAANP, FAAN, Associate Dean of Research for the college and ANEW Grant Project Director.
Boca Raton Regional Hospital Announces New COO 
Boca Raton Regional Hospital (BRRH) has recently announced the appointment of Mindy Shikiar, MBA, MSN as Chief Operating Officer for the organization. Ms. Shikiar replaces Karen Poole, who retired from the position earlier this month.

A seasoned and accomplished healthcare executive, Ms. Shikiar joined Boca Regional in 2003 and has served in various leadership positions including Vice President of Oncology Services, Ambulatory Services and Business Development. During her tenure she has had oversight of major programmatic and facility expansions at Boca Regional's Eugene M. & Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute, Christine E. Lynn Women's Health and Wellness Institute and Gloria Drummond Physical Rehabilitation Institute.

Prior to joining BRRH, Ms. Shikiar served as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer at Kindred/Vencor Hospital, a long-term acute care facility in Fort Lauderdale. Her 35-year career in healthcare is comprised of numerous nursing industry positions including that of Nurse Manager, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Director of Quality and Case Management.
