New California Adult Education Website Now Live!
|
AEBG has launched a new California Adult Education website designed for prospective and current students, as well as educators and administrators.
The new site has a fresh look and feel and is easy to navigate. Content from the existing website has been migrated to the new site, though categorized in an efficient manner. The "Find A School" locator allows seekers to easily locate information for all adult schools and community colleges in the state of California.
The new site will be a hub for showcasing all of the wonderful work AEBG consortia are doing on a local level.

SCAEC Board Members to Retire
|
SCAEC Board members Deborah Marvin and Nancy Penny will be retiring at the end of June.
Deborah, Superintendent of Valley ROP, retires after 27 years of service to students, Career Technical Education and Valley ROP. She was recently recognized with an Educational Award for her 25 years of work and leadership with State Center Community College District. Deborah has served on the SCAEC Board since 2015.
Nancy, Principal of Sanger Adult School, retires after 28 years of service to Sanger Unified School District. She was recently recognized by the Sanger District Chamber of Commerce as the 2018 Educator of the Year. Nancy has served on the SCAEC Board since 2013.
We extend our gratitude to Deborah and Nancy for their years of service to State Center Adult Education Consortium and wish them all the best in their retirements!

Student Success Story
Mayra Santana - Madera Adult School
|
 Thirteen years ago, Mayra was an ESL student at Madera Adult School. After graduating from Madera High School, Mayra tried to enroll at the Madera Community College Center, but her limited command of English was an obstacle and her college language entrance exam scores were too low for her to enroll.
Mayra states, "With my pride at an all time low and my dreams seemingly fading away, I enrolled at Madera Adtul School. I didn't know what to expect. I was enrolled in an Adult Basic Education class taught by Ms. Rene Smith. I attended her classes for six months, it was here I really learned to read, write and understand the English language. Ms. Smith was a teacher of excellence! She encouraged and believed in me as she did for all her students! At the end of these six months, I was able to retake the language exam at Madera Community College Center. I attended college there for two years, then transferred to Fresno State University where I graduated with two Bachelor of Arts degrees, one in English of all things!! And one in Spanish with a minor in Linguistics!"
Mayra is currently employed as an Adult Basic Education teacher at Madera Adult School, teaching the very same courses she took as a student.

 On February 9, President Trump signed a Continuing Resolution that includes significant increases in Non-defense
Discretionary spending and offers the opport
unity to increase funding for Adult Education, among other programs.
Now, each Appropriations Committee must decide how to allocate its new funds.
This is a unique opportunity to increase funding for Adult Education by $100 million (a roughly 17 percent increase).

USA Learns - Free Online Courses in US Citizenship and English
|
|
USA Learns is a free website created by the Sacramento County Office of Education to help adults learn English and prepare for U.S. Citizenship.
The website teaches English by providing engaging videos and educational activities. Learners have the opportunity to learn English independently or with the support of their teacher.
Teachers may access the USA Learn for Teachers website that enables adult educators to easily create online courses and monitor their students' progress as they complete the activities and lessons.

CCAE Regional Consortium Directory

CCAE is compiling a directory of the most updated adult education providers which will include primary contacts, program areas in which they deliver instruction, and total number of students served.
