FROM THE PRESIDENT AND CEO
2019, What a Year Already!
Michael Strech, President and CEO
As we enter the second half of the year, it is important that we take a moment to reflect on the association's accomplishments and recognize the dedicated efforts of our volunteer leadership.  Since January the volunteer leaders, members and staff of the North State BIA have been hard at work.

The Political Action Committee (PAC) has been busy preparing for the upcoming election in 2020 which is only nine months away. The government affairs team continues to be a valuable resource to elected officials and their staff implementing beneficial policies to help our regions staggering housing shortage.

Our various councils continue to play an important role in the connectivity, achievements and value that the BIA provides for our members.  The Sales and Marketing Council (SMC) was awarded SMC of the Year at The Nationals by NAHB for bringing innovative and relevant programs to the members of the BIA.

The achievements aren't just tied to the BIA, HomeAid is currently partnering with WEAVE on a project which will add eight beds to their safe house location and has already broken ground on their 100th project which will be completed later this year. Additionally, the Foundation had a very successful job fair in April in which 36 graduating high school seniors were hired by BIA member companies. The Foundation currently has 55 interns participating in internships with five builders.

Simply put, your association has accomplished a great deal in the first half of the year, which could not have happened without all of you.  Please take the time to review the entire list of achievements and if you are not actively participating, please consider becoming a part of one of the BIA's councils or working groups. We need the involvement of all of our members to continue to build upon the strength and success at the BIA.

THE FOUNDATION
"The Gambler" Poker Tournament and Saloon Mixer
Play for prizes in the Poker Tournament & at the Saloon Table Games to benefit the North State Building Industry Foundation! The Foundation strives to build the workforce in the building industry to give us a better tomorrow!

The National Association of Home Builders has recently recognized that a lack of skilled workforce is the number one cause contributing to the housing crisis.  In Sacramento we are fortunate to have the Foundation working every day to develop the next generation of skilled workers.  The future of the Foundation depends on the support of the building industry to help fund the programs that are vital to our future as an industry.

There are limited poker table seats available and we do expect this event will sell out, so register now to save your seat at the table! Not a poker player? That's ok, we will have a fun Saloon Mixer with food, blackjack, roulette, craps, silent auction and raffle prizes. For registration and sponsorship opportunities, please click here.

Rocklin City Council Approves FY 2019-2020 Budget
The Rocklin City Council adopted a balanced Fiscal Year 2019-2020 budget in late June with $72,714,500 listed in operating expenses and $12,944,500 for capital expenditures. Rocklin anticipates the local economy will continue to be strong through June 2020, but are still taking a conservative approach by controlling service expansion and expanding reserves where possible. While the revenue outlook is generally positive with modest increases in property tax and sales tax, the City is experiencing increased operational costs and a gradual slowing of residential development. Commercial development remains strong. Read the full report  here.
