This is not the March Madness I was expecting!

First of all, I would like to personally thank all of you on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Whether you are a pharmacist or technician procuring and preparing vital medications, a clinical pharmacist helping to guide therapy, or a manager working to keep the supply line open and employees safe, I am honored to work beside you as we prepare for the unknown. I pray that we have had ample time to address this historic event in our state.

At the KCHP spring meeting last year, I spoke on the differences between being transactional or transformational. If you missed it, you can view my address here

KCHP has taken many transformational steps in the last year and continue to do so during this time in history. We had started offering virtual journal club events and this will be transformed into our first ever virtual KCHP Spring Meeting scheduled for May 1-2, 2020. We have been working tirelessly, and are confident that we will be able to provide a high-quality event for our members.

I want to ensure you that KCHP has been in regular contact with KDHE, KPhA, the Kansas Board of Pharmacy and other stakeholders during the COVID-10 pandemic to assist wherever possible.

Starting this week on Tuesday, March 31 @ 3pm , we are going to hold our first weekly COVID-19 conference call. This will be open to all members to call in and share information about operational, scheduling, and clinical strategies along with learning lessons from the field.  Click to view login information.
I would also like to use this message to congratulate our incoming board members. You have elected a wonderful and talented group to lead KCHP into the future

President-Elect:                             Carolyn Huninghake
Treasurer:                                       Katie Wilson
District 1 Director:                        Megan Ohrland
District 3 Director:                        Kelsie Hundley
Technician Representative:        Vanessa Elliott
I would also like to thank our outgoing board members who have worked selfishly in many capacities to move KCHP forward.

Immediate Past-President:          Christina Crowley
District 1 Director:                        Todd Schroeder
Lastly, be safe out there. Take care of yourselves. Eat right, get some sleep and exercise when possible, and use your time off to rejuvenate when you can. It could be a long haul, but there are no other pharmacists and technicians I would rather trust to take care of the people of Kansas.

Humble Regards,

Joe D. Slechta, PharmD, BCPS-AQ Cardiology
President, KCHP
