This Sunday in worship we celebrate the 50th anniversary of our carillon with special music and a litany of rededication. We also continue our summer sermon series, "Word." Each week during this series, we will hear a passage of scripture chosen by a member of our church family, who will then share with us how this particular scripture has been or become God's Word for them. This week, Deni Horstman, who is also our lay worship leader, will share how
Psalm 150
has resonated in her life. Amy Starr Redwine's sermon will be on this same text and is titled, "Hallelujah."
Music Notes:
Our music for this Sunday's service continues in the celebration of the McGaffin Carillon. Following the Cragin Peal and Carillon prelude at
9:45am
, the organ will resound Louis Vierne's famous
Carillon de Westminster
, based on the famous 4-note chime motive of the clock tower of London's Westminster Palace. We welcome the Beckwith Handbell Choir presenting both the introit and offertory, and two hymns specifically reference the
inspirational role of bells in our worship tradition. Our service concludes with the majestic sound of the bells.
Children leave for Sunday School after the Time for Young Disciples and will rehearse for Youth Sunday after worship. The nursery opens at 9:30 am with professional childcare for infants and preschoolers.

Pray for those affected by gun violence
Since a gunman opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012, killing 26 people, 20 of them children; 966 people in Cuyahoga County have been killed by guns. Since last month, 14 more individuals have died by gun violence in Cuyahoga County. The names of those at least 18 years of age are: David J. Latarewicz, Darrell Hill, William Lee Banks, Brett Luengo, Dorothy Lucreda Perry, David Michael Kunikis, Brodie Malone, Anthony Ryan Hass, Kevin Scott Needham, Demond Williams, Eric John Burdon, Constance C. Anderson, Cheyenne Riley Jordan, and Timothy M. Snowden Jr. Eleven of those who died were by suicide. Believing God calls us to be peacemakers, by Session action, each month we pray for people affected by gun violence and to reduce the evil of gun violence in our nation, marked by the tolling of the tower bell. The Church of the Covenant partners with God Before Guns, a multi-faith coalition of individuals and faith communities created in the wake of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, to reduce gun violence. McGaffin Carillon 50th Anniversary Celebration & Parade the Circle: June 9-11
 Ready or not, the McGaffin Carillon's 50
th
Birthday Weekend and Parade the Circle Celebration are upon us! A McGaffin Tower is rising from a wheeled float base and an array of bat costumes is being readied for bats of all ages and sizes. This week, Fox8's interview of Parade creator Robin Van Lear and her daughter/butterfly also featured the McGaffin Tower bookmark craft among the dozens from which to choose within the Circle Village tents this Saturday.It's not too late to join us at our tent or to march in the parade.  Three carillonneurs-Covenant's own George Leggiero, David Osburn of St. Paul's Episcopal (and FMC board member), and Patrick Macoska, recently retired from the University of Michigan carillons-have been practicing for two concerts. Friday's half-hour lunchtime concert takes listeners musically to Ireland and Scotland in honor of McGaffin's heritage, with selections from
Danny Boy
to
Scotland the Brave
. Sunday's longer afternoon concert begins with the premiere of Jenny Conner's new
M
cGaff
in Flourish
, a brief romp over the notes C, G, A, and F which will herald all our future concerts. It continues with compositions from the 18
th
through 20th centuries, arrangements (including duets for 4 fists and 4 feet) of classical, popular, and sacred music, and improvisation, representing the range of music played on our instrument over five decades. For concert details, visit

A birthday cake reception follows worship, where you can meet Dr. McGaffin's descendents. Bell-shaped cookies and sparkling beverages will be in the reception room, where you may greet the artists following the concert.

2018 Habitat 5k Walk-Run-Mosey
Please consider joining us on Saturday, June 16th at Edgewater Park at 10am for the Habitat for Humanity 17th-Annual Walk/Run/Mosey.
There is a 5k route and a 1-mile fun route. If you would like to join our group please click

is free, but all funds raised
will go to rehabbing a beautiful Habitat house in the Buckeye Neighborhood for a family.
Camp Kesem and our Deacons would like your support.
In securing summer camp supplies for young people whose parents have or have had cancer. The Deacons are working with the CWRU chapter of this national organization and we still have opportunities for you to help campers from throughout northeast Ohio, ages six through eighteen. Visit our display in the reception room during the week, or chat with a Deacon after worship on Sunday. You can drop off your purchased supplies on or before Sunday June 17th in the church office.  Summer Desserts for Transplant House This summer, COTC is again working with our Mission Partners at Transplant House to provide Wednesday
night desserts for the residents and their families, in conjunction with Wade Oval Wednesdays. You can help by donating cash ($11 buys one quart of ice cream), or providing treats to serve 12 people. Sign up online here or in the church office. For more information, contact Mary Anne Bromelmeier.
Church of the Covenant is a host site for the 2018 Common Ground Conversation
On one day,
Sunday, June 24, 2018, Common Ground will bring residents of Cuyahoga, Lake, and Geauga counties together for a day of community conversation. This annual event brings people together around a common table in neighborhoods across our region. This year's theme is "Why Does Place Matter?" We will be asking questions about how we create community beyond the walls of the church and bring people together to support and nurture one another in our community of University Circle. Summer Learning
Half Truths: "God Helps Those Who Help Themselves," and other things the Bible Doesn't Say
The video and discussion course will take place on Sundays in July from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm in our newly renovated Dowd Commons on the lower level of the church. A repeat of Sunday's material will occur from 5:30-6:30 pm on Thursday Evenings. Join us for a time of learning and dialogue!

Community Events
 Credo Music Festival is
an Oberlin-based, Christ-centered music program for high school and college students, is sending its gifted young musicians throughout Lorain and Cuyahoga Counties to do community service. They will be giving concerts in venues including assisted living facilities and hospitals, and will be working in settings ranging from Habitat for Humanity to local food banks.
Volunteer drivers are still needed to take the students to community service projects on July 12 and July 19. Contact Emily at 440-774-3658 or
