Summer Programs

This summer, we are offering Summer Church School for toddlers through sixth graders. Toddlers and Preschoolers may be dropped off in the Good Shepherd Room, first floor.  Grade School age children may be dropped off in the Creation Room, second floor. Childcare for infants and crawlers is always available in the Church Nursery during worship as well.

Contemplative Prayer

Each week Stephanie VanSlyke and Jason Okrzynski lead a time of contemplative prayer, an ancient Christian practice of centering and silence, focused upon one of the scripture readings for the week. If you would like to experience this time of quiet meditation, or go deeper into your own practice, please join us in Stephanie's office on Thursday mornings at 10 a.m.

FCCW Wilmette Summerfest Party

Next  Saturday, July 21 , from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., j oin your FCCW friends on the church lawn during Wilmette Summerfest for lawn games, hospitality, children's activities, and our ever-popular karaoke! 
Support Curt's Café

Linda Gartz, author of Redlined: A Memoir of Race, Change, and Fractured Community in 1960s Chicago is offering her book for sale at Curt's Café, both North (on Central Street) and South (on Dempster Street), at the discounted price of $15.00 (normally $16.95).  The author will donate 40% of each book purchase ($6 per book) to Curt's Café. Women's Patio Party

Join us at Peg Kocian's house (1026 Greenwood Avenue in Wilmette) on Wednesday, July 25, 6:30 p.m. ! She looks forward to hosting the women of the church at her annual patio and garden party. Just bring yourself;better yet, bring a friend, and enjoy the conviviality of time with the women of FCCW. RSVP to Peg at [email protected].
Service Opportunity: Connections  Lunches

Our friends at Connections for the Homeless have re-opened their daytime drop in center five days a week and need bag lunches for those served.  FCCW has committed to making bag lunches twice a month. Please join us after worship in the church kitchen on the Second and Fourth Sundays of the month. We will provide the materials; you will provide the helping hands to make thirty sandwiches and bag thirty lunches! The next opportunity will be next Sunday, July 22!

Connections Requests
Our friends at Connections for the Homeless are in need of toothpaste, shampoo, backpacks/bookbags, men's shoes, and bath towelsIf you can donate these gently used/laundered or new items, we will gladly accept them in the Church Atrium. Thank You!
Supporting Refugee Families

Thank you to all who have donated household and personal items to the Stock the Shelves ministry for refugee families. Our congregations aim for a monthly distribution on the last Wednesday of each month, so keep your donations coming! To read more about "Stock the Shelves," check out the link in the weekly newsletter.
 
We will gladly continue to receive these items: paper towels, toilet paper, diapers (all sizes), hand lotion, body soap, body wash, toothpaste, shampoo, dishwashing soap, baby formula, and Ventra/public transportation cards.
Book Discussion Group

On  Thursday, July 19, at 3 p.m. , FCCW's book group will meet in the Library. They will be discussing Strong Poison by Dorothy L. Sayers. This is an informal group, and all are welcome! For July, the pantry is requesting these items:

1.) Peanut Butter (Any Size Jar)
2.) Canned Chicken, Salmon, or Tuna (Any Size)

Any and All non-perishable healthy food donations are welcome and greatly appreciated! Throughout the month, you may place your donations in the shopping cart under the stairwell in the Wilmette Avenue atrium entrance, across from the nursery and church office. Please feel free to contact Peg Kocian at 847-528-0632 for questions and/or concerns, or if you need assistance with your donations.
