Fireflies by Cai Guo-Qiang

Light City is pleased to feature the interactive artwork Fireflies by world renowned artist Cai Guo-Qiang as a special addition to this year's BGE Light Art Walk. Fireflies was curated by Lance Fung of Fung Collaboratives for Light City.

Fireflies is comprised of 27 illuminated kinetic sculptures. Over 900 handmade lanterns are attached to the top of 27 working pedicabs which may be used as transportation by festivalgoers. Each lantern is handcrafted in Cai Guo-Qiang’s hometown of Quanzhou, China, drawing on memories of the traditional lantern festivals of the artist's childhood.

COMMUNITY WORKSHOP FOR OPENING NIGHT PARADE

Participants can make their own paper lanterns to carry with them in the opening night parade. Located at Mini Light City at Transamerica Plaza, 100 Light Street.
OPENING NIGHT PARADE
8-9PM

Stepping off in front of the Maryland Science Center at 8pm, the Light City Opening Night Parade is a celebratory community walk featuring awe-inspiring illuminated art. The parade features Fireflies , 27 hand-crafted pedicabs made by artist Cai Guo Chiang, light-art works, community & school marching bands, stiltwalkers, dancers, neighborhood groups and community artists.
BALTIMORE DRONE PRIX
4-11PM
On Rash Field (400 Key Highway), The Baltimore Drone Prix is a never-before-seen mix of art, sport and technology! A collaboration between Global Air Media and McCormack & Figg, The 146ft long 26ft tall race course will also function as an attraction with large illuminated artwork lining the course for the drones to dart through and around at breakneck speeds. Pro races take place from 4-11pm on April 14 and 15 with the youth and amateur races April 21 from 4-11pm. 
DJ GUSTAVO
at the NEW Club Light City Stage at Kaufman Pavilion
7-8PM

A native from Peru but raised in Baltimore, Gustavo's sound has no borders. He's been spinning in the Baltimore area since 2005. He brings the heat with everything from Afrobeat, R&B, Reggae, Reggaeton, Soca, Salsa, Merengue y más! If you want to dance, then don't miss his set.
GRANDMASTER FLASH
at the Light Up the Night! Stage at the Inner Harbor Amphitheater

Emerging from the South Bronx in the early 1970s, Grandmaster Flash is inarguably one of Hip Hop’s original innovators. In the earliest days of the genre, he manipulated music by placing his fingers on the vinyl, perfected beat looping, and discovered many of the most iconic beats still commonly sampled today. It’s no surprise that The New York Times calls him Hip Hop’s first virtuoso. 
STROLLING PERFORMER: BALTIMORE HOOP LOVE

Come one! Come all! Step right up and let Baltimore Hoop Love dazzle you with mesmerizing hula hoop dance, magical hoop tricks and dizzying balancing acts. These hoopers will be strolling along the Inner Harbor Promenade.
Plus, it's not to late to register for Labs@LightCity, one of the largest and most unique social innovation convenings in the U.S. With new " Pay What You Can”  ticketing, attendees can choose to pay what they can to participate in the Labs. The Labs take place at the IMET Columbus Center,  701 E. Pratt Street , April 18-21. Each day emerging voices and established thinkers explore the innovations and practices that build stronger, more equitable cities. Each Lab explores the future of society and every attendee will have the opportunity to learn, network and be heard.
