Select items from CRYP's Keya (Turtle) Gift Shop are now available online, and proceeds benefit the nonprofit organization's youth programming and family services.

By supporting the Keya Gift Shop, you're also supporting  local artists and craftspeople; our youth artists, who are learning how their creative passions might translate to possible career opportunities; and our teen interns, who work in our gift shop every day, developing valuable skills in customer service, financial literacy and business management.

CRYP is actively seeking volunteers to work at our Eagle Butte campus.

Sponsor a Birthday Cake at The Main!
Main Birthday Party 1
Few days in a child's life are as precious as his or her birthday. Unfortunately, for far too many underprivileged children, that day passes with little celebration - if any at all. CRYP wants to make sure that the young children who attend The Main youth center have the birthday festivities they deserve.

Each month, The Main hosts a birthday party for the children whose birthdays fall during that month. To offset the cost of each party, CRYP seeks monthly sponsors to contribute $40 for the birthday cake. Please consider sponsoring a birthday cake this year! Every dollar makes such a difference in the lives of Cheyenne River's children.

Support CRYP When You Shop Online!
What if CRYP earned a donation every time you searched the Internet? Or, what if a percentage of every online purchase you made supported our cause?

Amazon, for example, will donate 0.5% of your purchase price to CRYP when you shop at smile.amazon.com. To make shopping even easier, you can add the AmazonSmile 1 Button to your web browser.

Then there are GoodSearch and GoodShop.

GoodSearch.com is a Yahoo-powered search engine that donates half its advertising revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate. Use it just as you would any search engine, get quality search results from Yahoo, and watch the donations add up.

GoodShop.com is an online shopping mall that donates up to 30% of each purchase to your favorite cause. Hundreds of great stores have teamed up with GoodShop so that every time you place an order, you'll be supporting your favorite cause.

And, if you download the
"GoodSearch - Cheyenne River Youth Project - CRYP toolbar," our cause will earn money every time you shop and search online EVEN if you forget to go to the GoodShop or GoodSearch sites first! Click here to add the toolbar.

While you're online, you even can make a secure donation with your Capital One credit card. Simply click here. You even can add an easy-to-use widget for future contributions.

RedCan 2018: Check Out the Action on CRYP's YouTube Channel!

If you couldn't make it to our 4th annual RedCan invitational graffiti jam on June 28-30, don't worry - you can still experience the excitement, creativity and inspiration through YouTube. CRYP has just released three "shorty" videos on its channel, and it will be releasing more in the weeks leading up to the mid-August unveiling of its RedCan documentary film.

Two videos capture Day 1 and Day 2 of this groundbreaking event, the only one of its kind in Indian Country. The third gives award-winning Sicangu Lakota hip-hop artist Frank Waln an opportunity to share his thoughts on the RedCan experience. ( We've shared the Frank Waln video above. To see the others, click here .)

Don't miss our sneak-peek photo gallery! And if you haven't done so already, please consider joining our Facebook community and/or follow us on Instagram and Twitter. We'll be sharing the new shorties via social media as soon as they're released, as well as updates on the RedCan documentary.

And finally: We're so grateful to Wingspan Media for their hard work on the RedCan photography/videography this year. They've done an incredible job, once again.

Thanks to Your Kindness and Generosity, We Recovered Winyan Toka Win

Mother Nature has been rough on Cheyenne River this year. The late spring and early summer storms have been violent, and as most of you already know, a devastating hailstorm wiped out 90 percent of our Winyan Toka Win (Leading Lady) Garden, the cornerstone of our Native Food Sovereignty initiatives here at CRYP.

But here's the great news. We were able to completely recover the garden, thanks to the kindness and generosity of Jack Dorsey, CEO of Square and Twitter; Running Strong for American Indian Youth; Hopa Mountain; the Larson Foundation; and numerous individual donors across the country. Our crops have been replanted and are growing beautifully, under the watchful eyes of our staff and CRYP's Native Food Sovereignty Interns.

We cannot put into words how much your support has meant to us. Without you, we wouldn't have a harvest this year.

We are deeply grateful.
Wopila.

Lauren Schad Leads Wakpa Wasté Volleyball Camp for 7th-12th Graders

This month, CRYP hosted a free youth volleyball camp at its Cokata Wiconi (Center of Life) teen center. The Wakpa Wasté Volleyball Camp for 7th to 12th graders took place on Thursday and Friday, July 12-13, with 7th-8th graders playing at 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 9th-12th graders playing at 1-3:30 p.m.

Lauren Schad led the volleyball camp, which was made possible through the support of Nike's N7 Fund. N7 reflects the company's ongoing commitment to bring sport and all its benefits to Native American and aboriginal communities in the United States and Canada.

Schad, an enrolled member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, has an impressive resume. Not only was she on the 2012 South Dakota Class AA All State 1st Team and the USA Collegiate National Team in 2015 and 2016, she was part of the professional French League A team in Chamalières, France, this past season.

And this 2018 Nike N7 Ambassador, who earned a bachelor's degree in anthropology from the University of San Diego, has been signed to the French League A team in Nantes for the upcoming 2018-19 season. It was an honor to have her with us this month.

July Hall of Fame:
Jaymalee Turning Heart

A couple of months ago, we profiled one of the five Lakota teens who have been participating in "Growing Into Wowachinyepi (One Who the People Can Depend On)," a special program we designed in conjunction with the Center for Native American Youth at the Aspen Institute based on its "Champions for Change." This month, we'd like to share the story of another one of our GIW Champions: Jaymalee Turning Heart, 17.

Jaymalee grew up in Cheyenne River communities of Bear Creek and Eagle Butte. While she did visit The Main a few times as a young child, her participation in CRYP programs skyrocketed when she hit her teen years-particularly when the youth project introduced its innovative teen internships.

To date, she has completed internships in art, wellness, native food sovereignty, social enterprise and indigenous cooking.

"The internships teach so many responsibilities, like coming in on time, having a great attitude, and always being ready to learn," Jaymalee says. "My favorite probably was indigenous cooking, because we learned about traditional Lakota foods. Through the teen internship program, I was able to complete my First Aid, CRYP and Food Handler's certifications, which I'll be able to use all in my life."

This past spring, Jaymalee got involved in "Growing Into Wowachinyepi," which has been designed to honor Cheyenne River's youth leaders in a culturally relevant and respectful way, while also giving them opportunities to continue their leadership journey. Through the GIW initiative, Jaymalee had the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C. and develop her own leadership platform: suicide prevention.
Thank you so much for your interest in our youth project, and for your ongoing support as we pursue our mission in the community.
