PREP registration launches Tuesday, March 31
The Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education (CPLED) is closely monitoring the COVID-19 updates and recommendations from government and health agencies in all jurisdictions in which they operate. CPLED is consulting with its stakeholders and trying to move forward business as usual. CPLED will provide updates where necessary if there are changes to its processes and program. 

New Bar Admission Program 

The Practice Readiness Education Program (PREP) is launching on Monday, June 1 with the first phase of the program being delivered online through the self-directed Foundation Modules. 

Registration opens on Tuesday, March 31 at 6:30 a.m. MST and is completed online at www.cpled.ca . Students are encouraged to register early. For firms who are registering their students, please refer to the Firm User Guide . Registration for the June 2020 intake closes on Friday, June 26.

Payment Options

To make the process easier for students and firms, CPLED offers payment plan options . For more information on how to make a payment, visit CPLED’s website .

Once a student is registered, an invoice is generated and can be printed for your firm’s accounting department. Students will not be given access to the program materials until their tuition fee payment is processed.

Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta: COVID-19 Notice
The Alberta Courts are attempting to balance the open court principle with public health priorities. The Courts are taking proactive preventative measures to protect justice system participants and reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Effective March 30, 2020, access to all courthouses in the province of Alberta will be restricted until further notice.
Request for Expressions of Interest for Canadian Lawyers Insurance Association
The Canadian Lawyers Insurance Association (CLIA) is continuing forward with its Annual General Meeting and is seeking a volunteer for one board member position.

CLIA is a reciprocal insurance exchange providing professional liability insurance to lawyers in nine Canadian provinces with its headquarters in Regina, Saskatchewan. CLIA’s nominating committee is seeking candidates for one volunteer board position opening July 1, 2020. Candidates do not need to be lawyers but should have some of the skills identified in the Skills Matrix . Experience with financial, investment, actuarial and/or audit functions would be an especially valued asset.

CLIA’s Board is a small and engaged group comprised of seven (7) people with varied experience, all of whom are committed to employing good governance principles. The Board meets in person in a central location (usually Toronto or Calgary) approximately six (6) times annually. The CLIA Board is reimbursed for economy travel, the cost of a hotel and other expenses but does not receive an honorarium.
