Public Art Event 'Dance Spot' Outside Paramount Center April 26th

The public is invited to dance on a pop-up dance floor in front of the Paramount Center made by multimedia artist Elisa H. Hamilton on Thursday, April 26th.


"Dance Spot" is an ongoing public art project and is being brought to Emerson College's campus by the Emerson Public Art Think Tank (PATT). Hamilton will create the dance floor from 8:30 am to noon and then dancing will be from 12:30 to 1:30 pm.

Author Brooke Barbier to Discuss 'Boston In The American Revolution' at Old South Meeting House April 26th

Author Brooke Barbier will discuss the bewildering and curious ways the British and Bostonians interacted with one another during the American Revolution on Thursday, April 26th, at the Old South Meeting House (310 Washington St.).


Barbier wrote "Boston in the American Revolution," and will talk about how many Bostonians feared the British standing armies. This event is free and open to the public. Registration is requested by clicking here. This event starts at 6:30 pm.
 
Strategies for Recruiting Expo at 
CIC Boston on April 26th

The Startup Institute is holding an expo for companies looking to hire from a diverse group of recent graduates and industry veterans at CIC Boston (50 Milk St., 20th Floor) on Thursday, April 26th.


At the expo there will be the opportunity to connect with leaders in the innovation community and hear pitches by eligible job candidates. This event is free to attend and from 6 to 9 pm.

The 2nd Annual Founder's Gala to benefit The Genesis Foundation for Children (60 Temple Place) is on Friday, April 27th

Explorateur (186 Tremont St.) is holding an exclusive pop-up by Camden Cocktail Lounge of the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas on Friday, April 27th.

Japanese Festival Boston on 
Boston Common April 28th & 29th

The two-day 7th Japanese Festival Boston will be on the Boston Common on April 28th and 29th.  


The free festival will feature 10 food booths serving tasty Japanese cuisine on April 28th from 1 to 6 pm. On April 29th from 11 am to 5 pm there will be a kids corner, performances, a cosplay death match and fashion show, workshops, more than 80 vendors, raffles, silent auctions and more. Downtown Boston Brass Band is Back Strolling Twice a Day and 
Taking Requests!

The very popular Downtown Boston Brass Band is back strolling throughout the streets of Downtown Boston twice a day.


The Brass Band will be strolling through the area on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 2 pm and 5 to 7 pm. 

The BID-sponsored band will stroll throughout the Downtown Boston area, stop on street corners, outside of businesses, play a song or two and move on. Please feel free to take photos or videos of them and share them on social media using #DowntownBoston. Also, the band takes requests!
 
Griffin Museum of Photography Exhibit 
'Tree Talk' at Lafayette City Center

The latest Griffin Museum of Photography exhibit at the Lafayette City Center Passageway is "Tree Talk." 
Michael Zeis' "Blue Spruce"

"In this exhibition called 'Tree Talk' the Griffin Museum of Photography brings together 66 photographers who converse with trees. The exhibit has been organized to flow as a narrative from the beginning to the end of the passageway. In this way the trees all talk to each other. We hope our audience enjoys the exhibition and that all of the trees give up their secrets to you," said Paula Tognarelli, executive director and curator of Griffin Museum of Photography.
Adrienne Defendi's "Tuning Fork"

This exhibit is through a partnership by the Griffin Museum of Photography, the Abbey Group and the Downtown Boston BID. This exhibit is in the Lafayette City Center Passageway (between Macy's and the Hyatt Regency Boston) and open to the public from 10 am to 6 pm. The exhibit is running from Jan. 30th through May 30th.

Enjoy Free Tasting Previews of 
Two New Restaurants in Downtown Boston!
  
Downtown Boston's food scene is about to get even more delicious! minigrow (125 Summer St.) and Spyce (241 Washington St.) are opening soon -- and before opening, they're offering free previews of their food this week. 


minigrow serves freshly made noodles and organic greens with umami-spiked vegetables, housemade sauces and dressings. They are offering free tasting previews on April 26th. Click here to signup for the free tasting.

minigrow is actually 
opening two restaurants at 10:30 am in Boston on April 27th, one on Summer Street and the other at 565 Boylston St. The first 100 people at either new location will receive free food and free draft lattes from La Colombe Coffee. Also, for every bowl sold on the first day minigrow will be donating $5 to support local non-profit ArtsBoston.


Spyce (241 Washington St.) is like no other restaurant you've seen because it features a robotic kitchen cooking complex meals. The restaurant is a collaboration between four MIT graduates and Michelin-starred chef Daniel Boulud.

Emma Rothfeld Yashar Elected 
WalkBoston Board President 

Emma Rothfeld Yashar, an attorney at DLA Piper (33 Arch St.), was recently elected the board president for WalkBoston (Old City Hall, 45 School St.)


"I am involved with WalkBoston because 
Walkable communities are good for everyone -- people and businesses alike!" said Yashar on WalkBoston's website. "I think WalkBoston's most meaningful contribution is being an advocate for walking and walkability throughout Massachusetts."

WalkBoston's mission is to make "...walking safer and easier in Massachusetts to encourage better health, a cleaner environment and more vibrant communities."
 
Road Scholar Board Chairperson 
Judith Allen Ferretti Establishes 
Endowed Caregiver Grant Fund  

Road Scholar (11 Avenue de Lafayette) board chairperson Judith Allen Ferretti feels strongly about caregiving and advancing the organization's mission. As a caregiver to her late mother she knows firsthand about the challenges of being a caregiver. Ferretti  has heard about the needs and challenges of Road Scholar participants who are caregivers for loved ones, and with her mother's memory in her heart, she has funded the Helen Studley Dodd Caregiver Grant Fund.

This is Road Scholar's first endowed fund for caregiver grants. Each year Road Scholar awards nearly 100 grants to eligible caregivers to help offset the cost of providing alternative care while taking respite to experience a Road Scholar learning adventure.

125 Summer Street's Smith Raphael 
Honored by SecurAmerica

Smith Raphael, a security officer for Oxford Properties at 125 Summer St., was recently honored with SecurAmerica's 110% Club Award.


Raphael has worked for SecurAmerica for more than a year and was very surprised when he won the award at a company meeting. 

"They were saying all of these nice things about the honoree -- and then they said my name. I was very proud," said Raphael. Raphael said he's striving to win the award again in the coming year.

Impact Advisory Group Meeting May 2nd

The Impact Advisory Group (IAG) will meet for the 115 Winthrop Square project proposed by MCAF Winthrop, LLC on Wednesday, May 2nd at Boston City Hall (9th floor, Kane Simonian Room).


Please note that the purpose of IAG meetings are different than that of a traditional community meeting. As part of the development review process, IAG members work closely with BPDA staff to identify the impacts of a project and recommend appropriate community benefits to offset those impacts. IAG meetings prioritize discussion between the project proponent (i.e. the developer) and IAG members.

Boston Area Spanish Exchange (101 Arch St., 8th floor) is offering several level-specific conversation workshops in Spanish, Portuguese and Arabic. BASE is also offering a special discount for BID newsletter subscribers for their next seven-week course period that begins May 7th.

Arts Market Now Accepting Applications
 
The Downtown Boston Arts Market is now accepting vendor applications. This year the Market will be operating 11 am to 6 pm in Downtown Crossing on Summer Street between Macy's and Roche Bros. The market will be on Thursdays and Fridays from May 18th through September 28th.


All artwork, crafts and food offerings must be original and handmade by you or your studio enterprise. No mass-produced or imported goods are allowed. All food vendor permits must comply with applicable public health regulations.

The  Downtown Boston BID Ambassadors provide clean and hospitality services seven days a week, nearly 24 hours a day. Ambassadors create a friendly, welcoming Downtown presence by helping visitors with directions, notifying fire and police personnel of incidents and more.
