Statement on Coronavirus

In response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and in accordance with state and local directives, please know Mental Health America of California (MHAC) has temporarily closed our office and are working from our homes. The MHAC team remains available through our MHAC emails and MHAC phone numbers. As we move forward through this unprecedented time of sheltering in place and incorporating physical distance, I'd like to remind you that you are not
alone, #YouAreNotAlone. Please remember to check in with one another, including our teams and employees. As we move forward through this challenging time, we encourage you to play a role in creating a safe place to talk about our own mental health wellness and challenges. Let's share which coping mechanisms are working for us. Let's share mental health resources. In addition to the below-stated resources, please know that resources and tools are available.

In community,

Heidi Strunk
President and CEO

How to Cope With Loneliness During the Coronavirus Pandemic

Are you unsure how to cope with loneliness during the coronavirus pandemic? You could be self-isolating because you've caught the infection, but there are many other reasons why you've elected to stay indoors.

Whether you are quarantined due to suspected exposure, staying home because you are in a high-risk category, or at home to help prevent the spread of infection, you may find yourself unprepared for the feelings of loneliness that will likely follow.

Coping with Stress of Coronavirus Crisis a Challenge for
California's Students

The mental toll of the coronavirus pandemic is unfolding inside homes throughout California, as students, parents and teachers learn to deal with a new normal of social distancing and remote learning.

All of California's four-year public universities and community colleges have shifted most in-person classes online, and nearly all of the state's K-12 school districts have closed, teachers across the state scramble to learn how to provide instruction remotely. Already-stressed parents overnight have become homeschool teachers. Students, meanwhile, are coping with missing major milestones like commencements and SATs while those in college are preparing to postpone plans for the future.
