Baked Goods Needed for the International Festival!
We would love lots of yummy treats for the International Festival! Please bag items individually to sell for $1. You can bring them directly to the International Festival on Saturday, 5/5 or to the tub in the school office beginning Wednesday, 5/2. Please label all allergy friendly items. Thank you for supporting the Puesta del Sol International Festival!

Puesta del Sol Science Fair and Family STEM Night
Even if you're not presenting at the fair, please
come see great projects
created by students and
have fun doing STEM activities
! The projects and activities will run from 6 to 8 pm.
As in past years, each participating family must have one adult volunteer at or before the event. In addition to bakers and food sales, volunteer shifts are available for room monitors, greeters, setup, tear-down, activity staffing, the scavenger hunt, and more.

Be a Part of Next Year's PTA Board

The PTA nominating committee is still looking for parents who would be interested in becoming part of the PTA executive board for the 2018-2019 school year.
Our most critical openings are President, VP of fundraising and Secretary.
The PTA
supports, enhances and promotes programs that make a huge difference in our children's Spanish immersion experience. However, we need active parent participation to keep making those programs a reality.

Puesta del Sol's PTA Academic Challenge 2018
|
|
|
The deadline for the Academic Challenge is approaching! Can you still participate? YES!
This is a non-competitive, voluntary program consisting of seven (7) academic challenges offered for all K-5 students at Puesta del Sol Elementary. Students choose and complete challenges throughout the school year. These challenges must be completed outside of school.
- ALL students are eligible!
- Students that complete five (5) out of seven (7) challenges are awarded a trophy! If a student completes all seven (7) challenges, s/he will also be awarded the Principal's Medal at a school assembly or award ceremony.
- Challenges have unique deadlines. See the descriptions of the challenges and their due dates.
*There is still time! Social Studies, Science, Math, Coding, Keyboarding, and Literacy Challenges can still be completed and counted towards achieving an AC Award! Need timesheets? Print them from the
website or ask for one in the office.
The Final Submission Form
and these AC components will be collected in the school office the week of 4/23/18. If you participated in the Reflections Art Program, Science Fair, or Passport Club components, those program organizers will confirm your participation. All you need to do is "check" the boxes beside the AC components completed. Have fun - and take on the challenge!

Accepting 2018-2019 Amity Intern Host Family Applications
|
|
|
Due to the wonderful outcome of our 2018 Auction we are able to  continue our Amity Intern Program for the 2018-19 school-year. We plan to host 6 interns next year which produces a great need for host families. We need your help!
As a host family you gain a new unique friendship and learning experience by welcoming an intern from a Spanish-speaking country into your home. Additionally, your child will benefit from extra practice and help with their Spanish language skills.

Congratulations Puesta del Sol WATCH D.O.G.S. dads - we're on pace to surpass last year's participation rate in the WATCH D.O.G.S. program! It's getting late in the school year, but there's still time to be a positive male role model actively engaged at school if you haven't already. Second Annual Spirit Week
|

During the week of 4/30 - 5/5, our community will be celebrating our second Spirit Week in an effort to build and strengthen community among our peers and Puesta del Sol community as a whole. Each day there will be a theme that all are welcome to take part. Please be sure that if students are participating that they are making choices that follow our
Big Three: Somos Respetuosos, Somos Responsables, y Tomamos Buenas Decisiones (respectful, responsible, and make good decisions).

Staff Spotlight:
Sra. Lopez-Kimball
|
|
|
Sra. Miriam López-Kimball is one of our four excellent first grade teachers. This is her 13th year teaching at our school.
Sra. López-Kimball is originally from Los Angeles, but her family is from México. She grew up speaking Spanish at home, and learned to speak English when she started school.
She has two wonderful and fun-loving children, Olivia (7th grade) and Owen (4th grade), who love to sing and dance with their mamá. She and her husband have a passion for traveling and have taken their children to eight different countries. Next on the list is Africa.
Thank you for the warmth and energy you bring to our school community!
