IATA Advertising Opportunity

The IATA working group is completing a final draft of the BIPAD document (Best Industry Practices for Aircraft Decommissioning) and  is offering the opportunity for relevant companies (like AFRA accredited companies) to advertise in the BIPAD manual. This would get your company's name/logo in front of the BIPAD readers and help support the production and dissemination of the document. Please click here for more details about sponsoring with IATA.

Association Update
From AFRA Staff
AFRA Members,

We hope that you are all doing well!

So far this year, AFRA Staff has had the opportunity to attend several industry events including the  U.S. Chamber of Commerce Annual Aviation Summit , ISTAT Americas , and most recently  MRO Americas . These events have afforded us the chance to visit with many of you - and to meet with other prospective members, network with industry colleagues, and sit in on educational panels relevant to aircraft end-of-life management.

We would like to share some highlights from the most recent industry event, MRO Americas, in Orlando, Florida:
  • The exhibition hosted over 800 solution providers and drew more than 14,000 registered attendees, which included representation from 86 countries and all 50 states - And quite a few AFRA member companies.
  • Jason Reed, AFRA Board member and President, Component Solutions Group, GA Telesis, LLC, participated as a speaker on the panel focused on Parts Traceability. Specifically, this panel touched on the challenges and opportunities for traceability, expectations for impending demand, and the future of PMA as it pertains to heavy asset teardowns.
  • Click here to access the MRO conference presentations.
  • AFRA member company UAM announced some big news about Carbon Fiber recycling. See the latest press release by clicking here.
  • Primarily focused on commercial aviation maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), this event certainly proves year after year why it's the industry's largest conference that brings together delegates from airlines, OEMs, MROs, non-profits, regulatory authorities, service providers / suppliers, and more.
Although spring is still fresh on our minds, the  AFRA Annual Conference  is just around the corner and will be taking place on June 24-26, 2018 in Scottsdale, AZ, USA. If you have not already done so, register by April 27 to ensure you receive the early bird discounted rate.

See you all soon!

Best regards,
AFRA Staff

Implementation of Directive 2000/53/EU on End-of-Life Vehicles (the ELV Directive)

Looking into sectors which touch upon similar principles as for airplane recycling, we want to draw your attention to a report issued by the European Commission on the End-of-life (ELV) Directive. The report looks in particular at vehicles which, once the end-of-life stage has been reached, disappear from the radar. The assessment shows that out of the more than 10 million vehicles which have reached their end-of-life stage in 2014, more than 4 million have not been decommissioned in compliance with the Directive i.e. no certificate of destruction is available and no information on whether the vehicle has been treated in an authorized treatment facility or whether it  has been exported. This means that a significant part of valuable recyclable material does not become available and that the recycling market is distorted through illegal activities.
