The end of the Spring semester is near, and for families whose student who will be graduating, congratulations! We are thrilled your student will be entering this new chapter! The university strives to continue to provide support as they transition into this new phase of life. Additionally, we would like to welcome the new families who are joining us with the Class of 2022! We hope you find this newsletter as a resource and guide as your student begins their academic journey at Florida Atlantic University.

Commencement ceremonies will be held on Thursday, May 3
rd
at 9am, 1pm and 5pm and Friday, May 4
th
at 9am, 1pm and 5pm in the Carole and Barry Kaye Auditorium located in the Student Union on the Boca Raton campus.
Degree candidates should report to the Live Oak Pavilion one hour before the beginning of the ceremony.
The Commencement Ceremony will last approximately two hours. Additionally, doors will close twenty minutes before the ceremony begins for the processional. At the conclusion of the processional, the doors will reopen for guests to attend the ceremony. Attendees must have a ticket.
For the safety and security of all graduates and their guests, mandatory security screening with metal detectors will occur at all ceremonies. All bags and personal belongings will be inspected upon entering the Student Union. As such, please bring only essential items to the graduation ceremony. Plan your arrival to ensure adequate time to go through security.

The end of the spring semester is quickly approaching. Move-out for students is 24 hours after their last final or May 3rd at 12 p.m., whichever comes first.
Break housing is available for residents who will be staying on-campus for summer 1 or summer 2 terms and are registered for classes and do not have an outstanding balance on their student account. Students must request break housing by April 24, 2018.
If your student will be enrolled at FAU in Fall 2018 and has not yet completed a Housing contract, there is still time to do so!

Save the Date for Parent and Family Weekend 2018!
October 5-7, 2018
Parent and Family Weekend is a signature fall program at Florida Atlantic University which allows parents, family members, and friends of students at FAU to come together and experience campus life. This weekend provides you the opportunity to visit your student and take part in the engaged events and programs that involve the campus community.
Registration will launch on May 22, 2018. Space is limited, register early!

LeaderShape: is a six-day immersive leadership experience that challenges participants to lead with integrity. Participants will gain an understanding of leadership concepts, develop self-awareness as a leader, apply leadership knowledge, and produce a vision of shared aspirations for the future. Space is limited.

Is your student looking for an internship or job in the engineering, computer science or related field? Encourage them to attend the Women in Engineering and Computer Sciences Internship and Career Fair on Thursday, April 19 in the Cube of Engineering East, Boca Raton campus.

University Advising Services (UAS) helps your student develop and implement an academic plan for success at FAU. Our advising program is based on the Appreciative Advising model, which is the intentional practice of asking positive, open-ended questions that help students optimize their educational experience and achieve their DREAMS, DESIGN a plan to achieve those dreams, and make necessary changes to ACHIEVE their goals. "Students on a four-year plan have three summers prior to graduation. Here are a few ways students can make the most of their summers...
- Enroll in a course: Taking one or more courses at a local college (or online) over the summer has several advantages. More student time is available for a particularly difficult course, it may lighten the next semester's course load- or speed up graduation. Students need to meet with their Academic Advisor to ensure that all their credits will transfer.
- Get a job or an internship: Recruiters and professional schools look favorably with work experience. Summer jobs also help defray education costs.
- Volunteer: Students who volunteer contribute to their community, receive personal satisfaction, develop new skills, and impress future recruiters."
