Cleveland Clinic Florida Designated Center of Excellence for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy
SPONSOR
Cleveland Clinic Florida, based in Weston, has been designated a Center of Excellence by the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association (HCMA), making it only the second organization in Florida to earn this designation. The HCMA is the premier organization dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by HCM.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a complex genetic disease that occurs when the heart muscle enlarges and thickens without an obvious cause, making it harder for the heart to pump blood. Roughly one out of every 500 people is affected by this disease, with the most common time for diagnosis occurring during infancy or adolescence.

"Achieving this recognition signifies our commitment to improving patient outcomes for those affected with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy," said Wael Barsoum, MD, CEO and President of Cleveland Clinic Florida. " Dr. Craig Asher and his team in our Heart and Vascular Center deserve recognition for earning this designation and for their dedication to providing support, education and advocacy for patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy across South Florida."
