Join the Strengthening Neighborhoods Steering Committee
Interested in leading on integration and inclusion efforts in DPS? As part of phase two of our Strengthening Neighborhoods Initiative, we're forming a steering committee  to advise DPS on how to implement  recommendations  designed  to  increase integration and inclusion in all of our schools, and effectively address issues associated with the declining number of school-aged children in impacted areas of the city.

We're recruiting approximately 40 people to meet several times a year and connect this work back to their local communities. Download this flier with more details about the steering committee, and apply below by Thursday, April 12. If you have questions, please contact Dustin Kress.

Enroll in a Voluntary Retirement Plan During Open Enrollment
It's never too early to start planning for retirement. You can enroll in a voluntary retirement plan any time during the year, including during Open EnrollmentApril 23-May 11. All benefits-eligible employees must take action during this year's Open Enrollment, which means it's the perfect time to look at your benefit options -- including retirement plans.

We've improved our 403(b) and 457 plans by consolidating our multiple-vendor model to a single-vendor model. We have selected VALIC as our sole voluntary retirement plan vendor, effective July 1, 2018. These plans offer employees the opportunity to save additional pre-tax contributions for retirement. That's important because not every employee will work at DPS long enough to retire under PERA. In addition, PERA is not designed to replace your full pre-retirement income and you may want to save additional money for retirement.

Visit thecommons.dpsk12.org/403b for more information, an FAQ and a calendar of dates that VALIC representatives will be onsite to talk with you about your retirement options.
Vacation Planning? Give Input on the 2019-20 DPS Calendar

state requirements, contractual obligations and community needs, your feedback  will inform the Calendar Advisory Committee's recommendations on the 2019-20 calendar. The survey is open through Friday, April 13

Living Our DPS Honoree

Dawn Lewallen
Librarian, Skinner Middle School
Fun

"Mrs. Lewallen, our librarian, goes above and beyond for our students at Skinner Middle School by living our Shared Core Value of Fun. She organizes after-school activities -- including Harry Potter day and Duct tape crafts -- and brought the beloved book fair back to Skinner. Mrs. Lewallen also hosts many contests throughout the year for our Learning Families. Currently she has a contest called Take a Peep into History, where the students make dioramas around an important historical event or date and use candy Peeps to bring the event to life. In February, Mrs. Lewallen created a singing competition called The Skinner Voice. She held weekly practices leading up to the event and even had guest judges score the performances. She is also always creating new displays for the library. Mrs. Lewallen lives all of our Shared Core Values -- but she exemplifies Fun."
