A Note from the  CAS C Staff: 
Greetings CASC'ers,

We hope you are finishing up the semester on a good note by acing those finals. Congratulations to all the 2018 Winter graduates! Below are information to some of the graduation ceremonies happening this week.  Additionally, check out the job and internships opportunity in preparation for the summer! 

Academic Advising

Preferred Admissions
All CASC students are eligible for the Preferred Admission program in the Masters of Social Work program at UM. To learn more, read below or contact the Office of Student Services at (734) 936-0961 to schedule a phone or in-person appointment.

CAS C Classes
Start planning Spring/Summer and Fall CASC Course load in time for backpacking/registration. Review classes that count toward the minor on the  CASC Course Guide . Looking for undergraduate course offerings? Visit the

Course Substitution Request: If you do not see a course listed that you think should count for your CASC minor, please email the syllabus and a short paragraph about which cluster you think it should count for and why to [email protected].

Senior Audit
Please fill out your senior audit as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please schedule an appointment or visit drop-in to speak with CASC Academic Advisor Joe Galura.

Course Enrollment Petitions:  Students must submit a petition found on the CASC website to enroll in SW 300, 305 (section 1 & 2), and SW 401. If there are any questions or concerns, please email   [email protected] .

CASC-MSW Preferred Admissions Program
Students pursuing a Community Action and Social Change (CASC) minor may apply to the Office of Student Services in the School of Social Work for the Preferred Admission Program leading to a Master of Social Work (MSW). This means you are able to apply to the school as both as junior and senior. Additionally, students will mark a "CASC Preferred Admissions" box on their application that will be taken into account in the decision making process. For admission criteria and more information visit the preferred admissions website.

CASC Course Offerings
London Course on Community Action
The focus of this course is on multicultural issues and community action in contemporary London. It's a good experience for students to learn how issues of race, ethnicity, gender and other identities relate to social justice in a different society than the USA. This course will take place May-June of 2018. Learn more.

Campus News & Events
23rd Annual Lavender Graduation 
Lavender Graduation is a celebration for LGBTQIA+ graduates of the University of Michigan! Graduates from any academic school/college in the University at any academic level are welcome to participate. All participants will receive a free rainbow 2018 tassel, a lavender cord, and a Lavender Degree.

The Middle Eastern/North African Student (ME/NA) Celebration
The ME/NA Celebration  is the celebratory program that highlights ME/NA graduates at the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint at the conclusion of every academic year. The ceremony was born out of a need to recognize the large population of previously unrecognized Middle Eastern/North African student graduates.

I GR End of Year Reception & Open House 
Join the IGR Office to celebrate our shared journey and accomplishments from this academic year! This will be an opportunity for you to meet other members of the IGR community, and celebrate our shared journey and accomplishments from this semester.

La CelebraciĆ³n Latina 
La CelebraciĆ³n Latina celebrates the University of Michigan's Latinx graduates at the conclusion of each academic year. During La Celeb, the cultural significance of the Latinx community is recognized, along with students' achievements, while providing incentive to future students to reach the ultimate goal of graduation.

Black Celebratory 2018
Join this event as a graduate, or audience member to acknowledge the value and uniqueness of the African/African American community and commemorate the accomplishments of students that participate in Black Celebratory.

Native Students Celebration 
The Native Student Graduation Celebration is an annual student led event that takes place during commencement week. The celebration acknowledges the accomplishments of graduating Native students, faculty and staff. The local Native community provides cultural enrichment to the ceremony.
When: Saturday, April 28, 7-9PM
Where: Matthaei Botanical Gardens

Asian/Pacific Islander Celebration 
The first annual Asian/Pacific Islander (API) Graduation honors the University of Michigan's Asian and Pacific-Islander-identified graduates at the conclusion of the academic year. During the celebration, we hope to create a hallmark for future students' completion of their degree but to also expound on what it means to be a part of the API community by way of recognizing the immense diversity of our community.

Jobs and Internships
The Michigan Affordability and Advocacy Coalition Organization 
This new student organization is committed to championing the financial and accessibility needs of students on campus - particularly around issues of health, housing, and food security. Created by lower- and middle-income students, we aim to empower economically marginalized individuals through solidarity, justice, and community organizing. Community Action Network AmeriCorps Summer Associate
D esigned to combat  summer loss of learning  CAN's Educational Summer Camps are a free summer program for children and youth who are under-resourced at CAN's community centers and partnering locations in Washtenaw County.  Summer Associates, along with CAN directors, operate free 6-week Educational Summer Camps for students rising into the 1st-4th grades. Hand of Hope Internship 
Casa de Esperanza provides residential care to children birth through six who are in crisis due to abuse, neglect, or the effects of HIV.  Care is provided in our neighborhood by our Hands of Hope interns. Learn more and apply

Magnifying Immersion Program 
A spring semester academic program for bringing Positive Organizational Scholarship (POS) to U-M's best and brightest students in order to learn, identify, and employ POS principles and practices that build high-performing organizations that bring out the best in people. Learn more and apply. 

Careers in Community Organizing for Social Justice  
The Direct Action & Research Training (DART) Center will hold an online information session  to discuss careers in community organizing with U-M students and alumni interested in uniting congregations and 
working for social, economic and racial justice.Deadline is August 13. Learn more and apply. 
Funding Opportunities
Rosalie Ginsberg Scholarship for Community Service and Social Action
Two $3,000 scholarships will be awarded to University of Michigan students holding junior or senior standing for Fall of the scholarship year, are enrolled full-time, who demonstrate a commitment to community service or social action, and who demonstrate financial need  as determined by the Office of Financial Aid. Deadline is May 11. Learn more and apply.

McDonald Community Fellows 
The MacDonald Community Fellows Program provides a unique three-year fellowship for University of Michigan undergraduate students. MacDonald Fellows receive funding while engaging in community engagement, leadership development, and personal growth .Fellows will receive a $5,000 annual scholarship, in two disbursements per academic year. Cutting Edge Contracting Undergraduate Scholarship
If you're looking forward to using your higher education to give back, Cutting Edge Contracting Inc. highly encourage you to apply for this Cutting Edge Contracting Undergraduate Scholarship. Students who are enrolled in college or university and continue to be enrolled in the following academic year are encouraged to apply. The scholarship. is intended to empower an undergraduate student who wants to better their own community. Deadline is June 1. Learn more and apply.

Fullbright U.S Scholars Program 
The Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES), on behalf of the U.S. State Department, administers the Fulbright Scholars Program, which annually makes available fellowships in about 125 countries to over 500 U.S. scholars and professionals from a wide variety of academic and professional fields.  Application due August 1. Fullbright Student Program
The Institute of International Education (IIE), on behalf of the U.S. State Department, administers the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, which allows 1,900 U.S. students annually to study, conduct research, teach English, or train in the creative arts in more than 140 countries worldwide. Luce Scholars Program 2019-2020
The Luce Scholars Program
 is a nationally competitive fellowship program that provides stipends, language training, and individualized professional placement in Asia each year. Applications should be from seniors, graduate students, and young leaders in a variety of fields (other than Asian studies) who have had limited experience of Asia.
